Craps Firebet Photo at Harrahs

A few weeks ago while I was waiting for my daughter and mother-in-law to finish watching "Defending the Caveman" I decided to while away the time by playing craps.

It was at a table at Harrah's in Las Vegas about two-thirds full. It was a ten dollar minimum table and I was betting double odds and then placing $12 dollar six and eight. I was also making $10 fire bets each shooter and generally made some and lost some money but never did a shooter get past three fire bet hits.

Then the shooter two to my right started tossing some numbers. He hit the six for a point, then after a few rolls hit the six. On the next come out, he rolled a point of five and then hit it after a few rolls. The table did not have any high rollers but excitement was building up and congratulations to the shooter were shouted out. Then on the next come out, he rolled a nine. I increased my odds to full odds of $40 behind the pass line and several rolls later, including a few hits on my eight and six, he was able to hit the nine.

Now the roller hit three fire bets and he needed to hit another one to get my fire bet in the money! The next point established was a four. The player to my right was betting more on the line than me and had a $5 fire bet. The rest of the table had a couple of $3 or $1 fire bets. The rest of the table had no fire bets out.

The shooter rolled a bunch of numbers, three, deuces, a couple of sixes and eights. Then a ten. At each roll someone was making money but while I have played the fire bet off and on over the years I have only hit a four point fire bet once and so was building up my excitement along with the others. Finally, he rolled a four! The table exploded! That was four fire bet points hit and I was looking at making $250 on the fire bet alone (minus my $10 bet which does not get returned). I quickly (and somewhat secretly took a photo with my cell phone as the dealers were paying off the four) I hope that the image appears correctly below. You can see that the fire bet "puck" placed on the four has a green border while the others have a black border.

If the shooter hits five separate fire bet points I would make $2,500 and if he hits six, I would make $10,000.

I then decided that since only the eight and ten points were let to hit on the fire bet to bet on those numbers. So I yelled "hard 8 and 10, $10 each since they are left on the fire bets to hit!" The dealer in the middle said, "in that case, do you want to make them hop on the come-out?" I replied, "yes" and the dealer moved me to $10 hopping 8 and 10 each. The shooter then rolled a six on one dice and a four on the other! But wait, the second dice landed on the stack of chips on the bank so "no roll." OUCH, but I know the rules and that was fair. The next roll was a nine for the first repeat fire bet number point. After four more rolls he sevened out.

The shooter made forty rolls (I counted using chips in my rail) and I made some money including $250 from the fire bet four hit. After then next shooter who went seven out quickly, I quit to pick up my family after the show. I cashed out a profit of $300 so almost all of it was due to the fire bet hit.

Nice hit. I turned my $2 fire bet into a $500 win at the Rio two years ago when the shooter at the end of the table hit 5 numbers...really was hoping he would hit that 6th point. Walked away with an $800 profit from that session($5 table).

Spring Break 2000 !!!
good to see a fire bet in actual play. Thanks for having the guts to take the pic and sharing it with us. Congrats on the win!
That sounds really exciting!

We have a casino near me in Joliet that was called Empress until is burned down. When it was rebuilt and re-opened as Hollywood, the craps tables no longer had the fire bet. I wonder why?

I played craps once -- first trip to vegas in 1991 -- and don't understand all of the bets but I know this was cool! LOL. Thanks for sharing and yes, for also sneaking in the photo.
I just learned craps last October. A buddy of mine commented on how often I went to Vegas 2-4 times a year, and yet never tried craps.

I took a lesson at my local hotel and even wagered a few on 6 and 8's. Got to the Gold Coast (where they had $5.00 minimums) and tried my hand there on my 4th night in Vegas (the day after I got engaged at the Mirage). They had the fire bet. At least 3 times I plunked down $5.00 on other shooters. No luck.

My turn came up and I, and several others, did the fire bet (in various amounts). Need less to say I hit the fire bet and it was the first time I walked away from a table game (other than paigow) with a $1,000.00 chip. I haven't played paigow at all in my home casino in Niagara falls. Just craps (no bonus bet in the falls for Paigow ).

There is something about the game of craps, plus the fire bet (or repeat bet that some toehr casinos have) that make his game so addictive.

Congrats on your hit. I remember my fire bet hit like it was yesterday!
Great story!! I love that fire bet. Adds so much excitement! Congrats.
These long shot bets can be fun…hell, all gambling is fun. But, when I put up a bet, I like to know that I'm being paid off fairly. The house holds over 20% on the Fire Bet. What's a 20% hold mean? It means that after losing your $1 bet 1,199 times, when you finally hit a win, the house only pays you $1,000 instead of the $1,200 they should be paying you. It is amazing to see $1,000 payoff on your $1 bet but don't forget the $1,199 you put in before it hits.
Stu
Stu, I cannot dispute that the Firebet odds are heavily in favor of the house. I believe the WizardofOdds backs you up. The casino heads would not had added the Firebet unless it was to the house's advantage. But the "Firebet" has the longest shelf-life of any craps bet. You place the bet before the first point of the shooter and it remains until he seven's out. So the actual amount of money bet is pretty small over the time frame. By contrast, the excitement of having three firebets hit and waiting on the fourth, or fifth or sixth hit is unbelievable.

Also now that I have regularly played the firebet if it hit six firebets without me having a buck or five on the firebet would make me depressed.
Back in the day in Atlantic City, I would put $1 on all the hard ways and let it ride for three wins. I won $1,000 three times. And I think I made $512 once, but I don' remember that as clearly. I don't play craps much anymore, and I would stay away from the Fire bet because of bad odds. You make plenty enough when the numbers are running.
