smerrian where did you come up with 8 or 9 rolls to get back in the money?, are you guessing or can you back it with math? you "CAN" be back in the money playing the iron cross in as little as three rolls if you are on a craps table paying triple for a "12".(I know the chances of 3 twelve's coming out in a row are slim but....) For me the average to get back in the money is closer to 6 if it was 8 or 9 I wouldn't play it.
I personally think the advantage (and why I play it) of the iron cross over the $5 pass line bet and single odds(ZZZZZZ) is, if someone goes on a run, the pass line player will make a whopping $10 and I will be making a minimum of $5 on every roll........ "and I have a good number of times"!
Don't get me wrong, I do NOT play the iron cross exclusively. I bet the pass line/don't pass line etc. as the game changes. If everyone makes a point and sevens out on the 1st roll 5,6 or 7 times in a row the iron cross could get expensive.
As far as tracking ones rolls.....if you played craps and tracked your rolls for 2 hours and the results said you made a point and sevened out after two rolls every single time for the past two hours, you would still be throwing money across the board on your next roll? You still wouldn't play the don't side because "the dice have no memory"........the casinos must send limo's to pick you up at the airport.
