Golden Gate to Replace All Live Table Games with Electronic Table Games

You cite just a few reasons why the tech games suck for older Vegasphiles; I'd also mention the old social vibe / environment surrounding a traditional BJ table as a missed gem too.

But the difference allows people who DON'T like the "social vibe" to play those games in a less frenetic setting. I've heard from dozens of people that they found the craps environment intimidating and/or that if they're playing BJ, they're afraid that they'll make a "mistake" and some goon from Outer Armpit will bellow at them, "YOU TOOK THE DEALER'S BUST CARD!!!!!"

Other people involved in the game you're playing isn't always fun or a good thing. Can you imagine five people playing the same video poker game simultaneously? "Hold the Ace!!" No, draw one to the straight!!" Jesus...

I've played Pai Gow and Pai Gow Poker at the big card clubs in California. As the maximum number of players at a table is six, but there are always far more people than that who want to play, they allow players to "piggyback" on seated players' bets. But some clubs say that the seated player makes the decision on how to play the hand...while others say that the largest bet does. The fights I've seen have been epic.

I would also mention the smoking at these "social" gaming environments, which I can do without.

The second hand smoke has no appeal for me either. But the traditional game of BJ as described does, so I'll just have to play somewhere besides GG ( and I suppose forfeit the LVA match plays associated with GG). Those tech table games just simply don't appeal to me; for those that like em, more power to em. Everybody wins..sorta. Part of the resistance is just my inherent rebellion against the steamrolling transition to a techy universe. My choice.

Golden Gate used to have an incredible vibe. Fridays and Saturdays they'd have 2 craps tables packed. Mostly $5 or $10 at the most. The dealers were characters, and made the game a blast. There were so many people in the place you could hardly walk through. not sure exactly what changed, but the table limits didn't help. It's just a shame. I used to love it there. Last few trips(weekends) it was dead.

Agree with you.  It was a fun little place.  Wife and son played BJ, while I hit the slots.  We also liked to go over the Mermaids to get the yard frozen drinks and then pay $2 or $3 bucks for a refill at the GG bar.  They also had the diner right next door. That's where the 99 cent shrimp cocktail was.   Not a shrimp cocktail fan, but lots of people went there, just for that.   Good ole days!

The article said the end of August this will go into effect (they hope). My wife and I are going in September. Does this mean the two blackjack coupons won't be able to be used? Do you think that they could be used at the D or Circa instead since all three casinos are under the same umbrella.

I have a lot of Golden Gate match play chips.  Any word if the D and/or Circa will honor those?

I too will miss the "incredible vibe".

Be sure to send these in as a QoDs, so that D and Circa management can be quized by deke/AC about it, or at least be informed of the vast amount of concerns out there by many of their customers.

You are only looking at a few months of those being usable, times as many Vegas trips as would happen by holders of the chips and coupons.  Likely not enough 'time' for re-tooling of D/Circa systems to accept them.  Hope I'm wrong on that.

I suspect that limited floor space has a lot to do with their decision.

The Golden Gate has never had more floor space than it does now.

Seventy years of live table games in less space than it has now.

Whatever the reasons, "limited floor space" isn't one of them.

That place has alot of history and people give it alot of sentimental love....but if there is ever a place that needs to be imploded and rebuilt its the Golden Gate.     I've stayed in campers that have more space than their rooms and the bathrooms are smaller than a phone booth.    The casino was all segmented out and poorly designed...there's no open space.   Everything is a series of small rooms.

I dont think there's much you could do to improve it that doesnt involve knocking down walls.

Time for the wrecking ball to come in and do something better.

I like the rooms there. Everything one needs - the rooms are small but do the job. Once you close your eyes and fall asleep, all rooms are equal in size.
