How Many Tax Slips This Year?

Thanks! Congrats to everyone else, too!

I gave back a little more than 80% of those W2Gs, so I still have to report winnings, but not THAT much.
That's a nice total Mare. Well done!

I had one for $4000 at the Four Queens.
Thanks! Congrats on your win! I have a $4k from Four Queens, too. I'm actually up there $4289 for the year.

I went back over my log and things didn't match up, so I went through all of my W2Gs and discovered that Rincon never sent me my copies. They give you a handwritten pink slip with your win at the time and then mail you the real thing, but I never got them. I'm sure they'll still report the wins, though.

So, my actual totals are 31 W2Gs for $82,936.00 with a bottom line win of $15,140.75
Hell of a year, Mare, congratulations, and I hope you hit the three dozen mark in 2011.

I got my first-ever W-2G this year, about $1250 but a very embarrassing win, it was on a penny slot, Life of Luxury, at the Las Vegas Club. I never play slots, but linda2244 shamed me into playing; now she's pissed that I won $1250 on a 30 cent investment. It was a very tough year until August when I hit it; now I'll finish the year up about $200. My wife is down about $500 for the year and beginning to see the advantages of keeping a log--no tax burden this year!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone!

Question for the W2G recipients.....

How many places offer or require tax withholding ? I woud guess that Vegas would not even offer. Local Harrahs does not. Another here offers...25% Federal, 3% Illinois Income Tax...which you don't get back

BTW, way to go, Mare. You've turned gambling into a part time business.
Thanks, Jon and Phil. Unfortunately, it's the first winning year I've had since 2004, so it doesn't begin to make up for my losses. Someday, I hope.

Jon -- no reason to be embarrassed about a slot win -- that's terrific! Congratulations!

Phil -- no casino has ever asked me if I wanted taxes withheld and I have to admit I've never asked.
Thanks, Mare, still kind of sucks to be down like $1000 on good VP and blackjack in a year and to make it all up on a penny slot. I can hear my in-laws lecturing about how I'm thinking too hard and not having fun, and how slots are every bit as good a gamble as VP ("you either win or you lose").

I don't know anything about voluntary withholding; I think withholding is mandatory for non-US citizens, isn't it? My brother-in-law once got a RF playing Caribbean Stud in Atlantic City; he won $176K and they withheld about $40K, he didn't have a choice. Is that because it was New Jersey or because it was a boatload of money? Anyone know?
When I got one in New Orleans Harrahs, they held out 6%. Is there a way to get that returned? Would I have to file a non resident return?
This is the only one I have this year.

Yes, you have to file a non-resident return. They kept $115 from me one year and gave back about $85 after filing a return.

Got 2 on our recent December trip - $1500 and $5020 both won on dollar slots - but we are down much more than that. Those wins with the big one on the last night meant our 8 day December trip - only cost a couple of G's - so very happy with the results on this trip. It is a nice feeling to actually bring money back home - haven't experienced that in a long time.
