I Finally Get to Say This Part 2...I got my 1st Royal!!

You guys were right...after one Royal comes, another is soon to follow. It happened on our first day in Vegas while we were staying downtown for 2 days. I had already won a little at bj and a little at PickEm vp earlier in the day. It was later in the evening and my husband wanted to play bj but we couldn't find a $5 table with 3:2 payout anywhere so we settled on playing some ddb at a bar in 4Queens that was close to Fremont Street. I hit several full houses fairly quickly and was up a little bit when dealt KQJ of spades. I hit the draw button not expecting anything and was shocked to look down and see the A 10 of spades and my first ever Royal flush! Since it was a bartop there wasn't any lights or sounds going off so I stared a little bit at it and looked at the "Win 4000" and payline to make sure I was seeing it right, then started pounding on my husband's arm who was sitting next to me on the right.

I still can't believe that after 10 years of playing vp and no royals, my husband and I have now gotten one within a few weeks of each other.

Didn't have much luck the rest of the trip. Lost my other winnings (not the royal) the next day. Then later while staying on strip won a little at bj at Terribles, lost a little at craps at Bill's, and lost a couple hundred playing ddb Quick Quads at Ellis Island. Was on my 2nd hundred before getting a quick quad (or any quad) and would've quit then but since I can't find this game in Shreveport decided to play a little longer and see if I hit anything else (no). Now if the Texas Rangers win the World Series I'll get some of that back with my futures bet I made.

Overall a "Royal" good trip!
Congrats!!
Congratulations, Jana, on finally getting your First Royal Flush! I should say that Double Double Bonus is an extremely volatile (High Variance) game which can make it even harder to get a Royal Flush on it.

Four Queens has 10/7/5 Double Bonus Poker with a Progressive Jackpot (which starts at 100% on its own) and is less volatile than Double Double Bonus Poker. The bank of machines with it are right outside of Magnolia's restaurant.

And again, El Cortez has a (actually more than one table with it) decent 3:2 Paying $5 Minimum Single Deck Blackjack game, so check into that (but please make sure to not make the "Royal Match" side bet because it offers a casino advantage of almost 4 Percent)!

Congrats on your royal Jana! My last one was also drawing to KQJ!

I agree 10/7/5 Double Bonus is less volatile. I would also add that before playing Double Bonus, make sure you are intimately familiar with perfect play strategy (or have a strategy card). It is FAR easier to make costly mistakes in Double Bonus than it is in DDB.

Both my husband and I are the kind of people Bob Dancer talks about who don't want to bother with learning all the penalty card strategies for proper play of Double Bonus. Even though DDB is more volitile, we both enjoy it because of the bonus payouts for the quads and the strategy is easier. I will play 8/5 Bonus sometimes for a little less volitity.

We didn't make it down to the Cortez this trip so will have to check it out next time especially for bj.

Congrats o the royal!!!!!!!!
My wife and I are in the boat you where in. We haven't got a royal yet. We've been playing vp for eight years now.
We go Sept. 21, maybe this is the year.

At least the issue for me between DB and DDB is that the Variance is like 50% worse than Double Bonus.

Whereas 9/6 Jacks Or Better has a Variance of 19.5 (the lower the Variance the less volatile [and less prone to wild and extended cold {losing} periods] it is) and 10/7/5 has a Variance of 28.3 whereas Double Double Bonus Poker has a Variance of 42. For me, that is way too high for me to want to deal with.

It obviously all depends on how much of a Risk Tolerance each person has, but I myself don't have much of a tolerance for risk.

Vegas777, wish you "royal" luck for your Sept. trip. I think it taking soooo long to get one really made me appreciate it when it did happen. I am still very excited about it. Hope you get to experience this excitement too in Sept.

RecVP, I hear ya but for us we really don't play that much vp or go gambling but a couple of times a year so the variance isn't as big a factor as enjoying the game itself. Usually at least one of hits a quad which makes DDB more fun for us, although when we are both on a quad drought it isn't so fun - lol!
Congrats Jana! Dontcha just love that instant when you realized just what you had in front of you? Wishing you more to come!

Good going!!

Its more fun when you aren't really expecting to fill in the Royal, right?
