I had to complain to a pit boss about a dealer!

Mmmmm, jerky.

Alex, I'm in AA for some time now.
Dealing with sober drunks is hard enough
Dealing is a crappy job- I wouldn't last a day...but it's a job none-the-less.
Sounds like abuse happens on both sides of the tables
I know what the original poster is saying. Let's be honest, if we've played any amount of time we know that there are some dealers who seem to thrive on the scene, some who, as one dealer woman put it, "make the most of it and try to enjoy work", and those that seem pissed off that they are there and that they have to deal with ANY people, let alone those that are enjoying themselves while they (the dealers) have to work.

I personally have noticed that the Asian dealers have a lesser sense of toleration and "fun" than the other dealers. I'm not saying thats good or bad, but they seem to be there to do a job and their job isn't to smile, talk, or enjoy themselves. Cultural or personal, thats the way most (not all, but most) Asian dealers seem to me. Unfortunately, my plan is to talk and have fun. When I have a stick in the mud running the table, it is hard for me to do that. Therefore, unless I see from a distance otherwise, I avoid these tables. It's nothing racial. Truly, I think most Asian women are beautiful and I would love nothing more than to sit at their table and have fun. We just seem to have different agendas: work vs fun.

To be honest, these types of dealers are also the reasons that I have stopped tipping at the tables. If I tip, I want it to stay with the dealer that earns it. To know that these types of dealers, making snide looks/comments, can share in the tips that I leave for others makes me choose to not leave any tips.

Pick one vice and do it really really well but don't mix gambling with drinking.

So just to be clear, you're not racist or cheap, correct?

i don't get the "rat-holing" thing. Why can't you take your chips and pocket them? It's you're money, right? What consequences are there for doing this? Just curious.
I certainly wish you the best Noahcat but I'm not sure why that comment was directed to me. Don't get me wrong, I'm not upset but it seems this would be the proper response to the post by toddalanhart. I hope it continues to go well for you.

It is a well known, well publicized tactic. Especially when winning you can give the illusion you are behind and possibly milk it for more comps from a sympathetic pit boss. Also a good way to "lock up" part or all or you winnings.
kevinandbeth: You are correct. You can take your chips off the table and stick them in your pocket all you want...they're your chips and your money. BUT, the casinos have to do their job, too. They record how much you buy in for and at the end of play how much you color in for. This gives them an approximation of how much the dealers box should contain in chips/cash. With small chips, they don't worry as much, but with blacks and higher every chip is to be accounted for and with greens, eight chips is already $200 off count. Also, if you play with a card (are a rated player) this actual win/loss will be recorded in their computers for tax purposes (both yours and theirs). So by pocketing chips you are throwing off the casino in how much you actually won and you are throwing off the pit boss on how much should be in the dealers box when the new pit boss comes in and recounts everything...potentially threatening his job. Know wonder they don't like it.
Toddalanhart: You are right to complain. It will be mentally recorded in the pit bosses head that this person had a complaint made against them. Expecting any immediate action is unrealistic. From the pit bosses view: 'I have a tipsy/drunk person here making a complaint about one of my employees. The employee will be here every day I have to come to work, the tipsy/drunk person probably won't even remember this incident and if he does will probably just shrug it off. I'll listen and then do nothing. If I get further complaints in the future I may mention it to my boss.' I don't think you'd get anything more from a pit boss.
Stu
marcr and smerrian, thanks, great explanations. I'll be aware of this if i ever find myself winning!
