Let's Talk Craps

Well, since we're comparing grinder strategies.....

Sometimes I like to go to a $5 table and do this:

$12 six and eight
First hit, reduce to $6 six and eight
Second hit, $22 inside
Third hit, all off until the next shooter

I read about the system several years ago. On a somewhat-choppy table, you can survive for a long time. On a hot table, you do a slow burn watching your non-working place bets score over and over...

Thanks for starting this thread - learning good stuff. I'm not the best craps player, but enjoy the tables. I usually play it safe ($3-$5 tables) and almost always bet on the pass line and back up 1X odds. I am a sucker for the field (worst bet - but I like it). I'll watch the dice and if three or four rolls go by and no field numbers hit, I throw $5 on it for fun. One time I bet $10 on the field - lost. Then $20 on the field - lost. Then $40 on the field - lost again. Finally, nearly out of cash, I took my husband's last $80 and threw THAT on the field - 12 hit. It paid triple and I won $240. Stupid (I was drunk) but thrilling.
I remember reading some John Patrick craps books (is he still around?) years ago and he had a lot of hedge systems. You can play a long time with hedge and/or grinding systems. As stated above great for choppy tables but I hate missing out on a hot roll I'll usually press my place bets one unit every other hit. I never take them down but then of course I always leave a lot on the table on the seven out.

Impossible to pay the bettor on the line, the odds bets even out to nothingness, the house wins $10 every 36th line bet, and dirty looks from everyone. What's not to like?

Strategies like that kept the gin in generations of casino magnates' tonics.

i no longer have any interest at all in playing Craps with any method of play what so ever. I have played enough for 10 lifetimes and dont even go near a table any more. I have read many of the books by the well known authors probably mentioned in this post or in any future posts. A book that I had/have a real affection for is the Dice Doctor Revisited ( revised and expanded )by Sam Grafstein. It is a good read and much wisdom and humor is contained between the covers. He lived the life of a craps player and operator since he was a kid. He is now gone but one can get his book. Generally I am available to answer questions but for this post I am not going to take the time to do so as I now have other interests. I doubt that any student of the game with a bit of a craps fasination would consider the book a waste of money. Good luck to all of you. I am just sharing some information on a good book on the subject of Craps.
Well, that's an unusual comment. You're posting to say you don't want to respond????

thanks for the book suggestion. I just bought it for my iPad. I don't typically believe in "dice control" but I agree that no book is totally without merit. I hope to pick up a few ideas/suggestions from it. Hell, if I win (or save) $10 thanks to this book, I'll have made my money back!

I've always loved craps. If you play fairly smart the house edge is low and nothing (well almost nothing) beats the excitement of a hot craps table. I love watching newbies when they shoot the dice for the first time. From the timid (who shake the two dice and drop them right in front of them like they're playing Yahtzee) to the ones who trying to put a hole through the other end of the table. I've seen dice jump up and land in womens cleavage's (is that a word, I doubt it). Early in my craps career I was shooting at a $2 table at the Stardust (maybe the 3rd or 4th time I ever held the dice), had a great run, won about $150 (big money for me at the time) and a Japanese businessman at the other end of the table walked over and gave me 5 black chips (I don't know how much he won but apparently it was substantial lol).

I play a basic game of pass line/full odds, place the inside numbers. I know come bets are a little better but I'm too impatient

So if anyone else enjoys craps let's hear it. How do you play, where do you like to play...

I found the nowadays $1 wager rarity at The Nugget in Carson City a couple of years ago was with my new mother in-law and showed her the ropes of smart playing like MD said playing the pass line with full odds on the mean streets (6s & 8s). We played for half an hour and both walked away with 75 & 50 dollars. Not a lot but not bad considering what we were wagering. Anyone know if the Westin still offers a happy hour $1 craps?

Yes, John Patrick is definitely still around. His website is found at https://www.johnpatrickcasino.com

That's cool. I don't agree with a lot of his strategies but I've read most of his book and they are entertaining.
