Match play Advice

Question - I will have NINE $25 dollar even money matchplay casino chips.  Are my odds better at an even money Double Zero Roulette Wheel OR a Double Deck Blackjack Game with near perfect play.  These are all for use at The D Casino.  I don't know if the D has a Single Deck Blackjack Game.  I am sure they do not have a single zero roulette wheel,  Somone might know.  I could also use them at the Craps Table as well (I need guidance what to play on that table.)  Any Recommendations??  Thanks a Million.

Don't use them on roulette. That's perhaps the worst alternative. The house advantage is over 5%, something like 5.24, I don't want to bother looking it up.

And the last single zero roulette wheel in Vegas was destroyed in a bonfire along with the casino manager who installed it.

You want to play the chips on even-money bets; that's all you're allowed. So you want the best chance to win those bets that you can find.

If you play perfect Basic Strategy, you'll be fighting an 0.6% edge or close to it. HOWEVER, if the game is shitjack, not blackjack, meaning that a BJ pays 6:5, your disadvantage is over 2%.

If you bet Pass or Don't Pass at the craps table, your disadvantage is 1.4%. if you're unfamiliar with the game, just wait until there's a "new shooter" and then make your bet. The dealers will help you if you ask. It's also fun to roll your own fate, so you could wait until it's your turn to shoot before you make your first bet. The dice move clockwise from player to player, so if you sidle in there to the left of the shooter, you'll be next when that shooter "sevens out" (all Pass Line bets lose). Again, feel free to ask the dealer questions; you'll be the 47,342nd novice player he's seen.

The carny table games like Three Card Poker and Pai Gow Poker all have house advantages of at least 2.5%.

So, from best to worst:

Actual blackjack

Pass/Don't Pass at the craps table

Shitjack

Carny table games

Roulette

Good luck!

I don't think the even money bets at roulette have that big of a house edge, but could be wrong.  Red -black. high low, odd-even.  I just watched a guy lose eleven hands in a row playing blackjack 3 days ago.  What about Baccarat .  I always like to have the option to play with the house.

Each even money bet at roulette has 38 outcomes, 18 of which are winners and 20 of which are losers. I don't want to fight those odds. Almost all the possible bets at roulette have that same 5+% edge. Avoid.

I didn't include baccarat because it's hard to find a game, particularly where the OP will be playing.

But insofar as that game is concerned, the Player and Banker bets have a pretty low house edge: a bit better than a craps Pass line bet. But here's a bonus tip!

The Banker bet is roughly equal to the Player bet in terms of EV because of the 5% commission. But in many casinos, when you bet $25, they don't take a true 5% commission, because that would be $1.25 and they don't want to mess with quarter coins. So they only take $1, which is 4% and reduces the house edge to roughly 1%.

So while baccarat is worse than BJ, it can be better than craps.

But here's why I would prefer craps for this exercise: it will take considerably longer to resolve nine craps bets than nine BJ or baccarat (or roulette) bets. If the OP wants entertainment, craps is by FAR the game that's the most fun.

The plaza has a single zero roulette table. I think the minimum is $25.

I thought I heard that they closed it. Whatever, it's still -2.7%. And $25 minimum???

What I'd love to see somewhere is a French-style single zero roulette table with the "en prison" rule, which reduces the house edge to -1.35% and makes it as good a game as baccarat. Dream on!

It was there last summer but they may have closed it since then.

False.

The 0.6% edge presumes that the entire wager can win a 3/2 payout for a blackjack.

Casinos don't pay 3/2 on matchplays. The pay 3/2 on the cash portion of the wager, but just 1/1 on the matchplay.

You may also be forced by basic strategy to multiply your cash bet in case of certain double and split opportunities.  Sadly, those opportunities will be wagered without an accompanying increase in free matchplay value, which increases your exposure to the house edge.

Unless you expect to live to infinity, wager these on the pass line.

I've been paid 3:2 on a matchplay blackjack. I've also been allowed to double or split with matchplay chips. It depends on how liberal the casino is.

House edge at that roulette table is still twice the house edge at the craps table's pass line.
