Newby sports bet advice? Where to bet?

Dear Group:

Off to Vegas later this week. My wife loves football and does great in the 3 pools she's in. She would love to bet on this Thursday night's game and we arrive Wed night. Neither of us have done sports betting before. We're staying at Bellagio.

--Where would be a good place to go to bet?
--Any help on lingo or "Sports Bets 101" type-help would be appreciated. She understands about spreads. Would like, as she said, a "non-intimidating" place to bet. Are people generally helpful?

Any advice would be helpful! Thanks.

Hey Joe,

Although I don't know much about sportsbetting or where exactly you should bet, I do know that if at all possible, you should try and shop around from to casino to casino to find the best line as to what you are looking for (I think either + or - points or if you are playing the Moneyline [which is when you are betting for the team to win outright]).

I say this because lines can very well differ from one casino to another and it can be worth it to get more for your money rather than less for your money.

I also should say that you should try to go to the different owned casinos. What I mean by this is that if you stick with the same ownership group of casinos (such as CET or MGM/Mirage/Mandalay Bay), within their casinos the line is more likely to be the same (although it can differ between Caesars' Group casinos and MGM/Mirage/Mandalay Bay Group casinos, but I would recommend some more checking around at other casinos who are not connected to the two above-mentioned chains.

Hi Joe,
As a newbie myself, I found the Wizard of Odd's page to be a helpful place to find out about the various bets and how to make them. See: Wizard of Vegas: Sports Betting Page

Hope this helps! Have fun!

you can also preview lines at the following site: https://www.vegasinsider.com/nfl/odds/las-vegas/

I'm not much of a better either and when I go up to place a bet I always tell them that I'm a newbie. Unless the lines are really long (read... right at kickoff) I have always found the ticket writers to be very helpful.

Joe,
Just got back from 12 days of sports betting. They are right, the odds vary depending upon where you go. We liked Caesars the best and if you are looking for a place to watch it, they have a great sports book. All of them are easy to use and the workers are very helpful.

There are some simple how to sheets that they put along with the odds sheets up front. Usually the two or three game parlays are the best for me.

If you need anything else, email me at [email protected] and we can chat.

Good luck and enjoy. You can have a lot of fun with just a few bets.
