The NFL Money Grab

Is that really all it is for the NFL playing regular season games in Rome, Dublin, Sao Paulo, London, etc?  No one cares about American football in those countries, or do they?   Almost seems as if, with the time difference, there's a 6 AM kickoff in Las Vegas and bettors can get their bets in earlier.

The late commissioner Pete Rozelle used to be wary of overexposure.  Those days are obviously long over.

Oh, no, those games are always very popular. Any of those cities will have enough fans of American football to fill their stadia many times over. And don't forget about teevee.

So yeah, everything the NFL does is all about money, but this is a good idea. There is indeed a fan base.

You have to consider, in those countries, the primary spectator sport is futbol, a game where the final score is always 1-0 and the games are ended by the fans rioting and burning down the stadium. Anything would be an improvement, including rubber duck races.

They should set up their own league in Europe....and then the Superbowl would be between our champion and their's.

That's a great idea! And now that all of Europe hates the US, that SuperSuperbowl would be avidly watched by millions of people wanted to see our ass get kicked.

I'm failing to see how people having more time to place bets on some games makes the nfl more money or is more desirable for them from a business standpoint. Or I may have completely misunderstood the point you were making?

I agree with Kevin that there are enough international fans for these games to make business sense. Also with more games in their country it increases the fan base for that area which equals more ratings which equals more revenue.

I can't remember any instance of the No Fun League making a decision that wasn't a money grab. Why people tolerate two hours of commercials to watch the eleven minutes of "action" - other than gambling or fantasy sports - is beyond me.

Bets. Lots and lots of bets.

I agree 100%. I wear out my mute button during a NFL game muting the incredible number of commercials

Recently had an Uber driver in France. He had grown up playing US football there. He was very knowledgeable about the game. He had attended many NFL games in Europe. Seems like a positive in spreading our love of the game
