Roulette info needed

I have a friend who will be going to LV for the first time in Oct. He has decided that he can come up with a system to beat the house playing roulette . It's apparently a variation of the Martingale system. I have told him it ain't going to happen so that's not the question. But he persists.

He needs to know what the lowest limit roulette tables are on the strip and the maximum bet he can make. We have heard that MGM has a $2 dollar wheel. He's worried about them not letting him bet a high enough amount. I told him I thought MGM would cover him not matter how large the bet.

Any suggestions on the lowest limits on the strip or downtown and max bet amounts would be great.

Thanks
Should have used google, found what I was looking for. Thanks
you should try really hard to talk him out of it. Walked by a table last nite at the Palms and the numbers had been even 8 times in a row and black 9 times in a row. A
muscle man streroid guy and a tiny little asian lady were probably betting 10k between them and just so I could watch them play at least once decided to throw 15 on red
and 15 on odd just for fun (and even tho each spin is a random event which is one of the few things I remember from my stat class in college) the due factor.
Needless to say it landed on 0. The steriod guy prob lost between 4 and 5 k as he had at least 50 on every number besides 16, 19, 21 (don't ask why
maybe he doesn't date girls that age, who knows?) The little asian lady at least had $200 on the split 0/00 so she got back at least 3,500. Old axiom in the investment business,
"never try to catch a falling knife" which is what the Martingale (and any variation of it is) systems are. Murphy was def a roulette player. Save your friend some heartache.
Tell your friend that I had the same system (or a version of it) a long time ago, when I was young and pigheaded (now I am old and pigheaded). Started out on $1 tables and did the Martingale. First 4 hours were so easy, never got higher than a $16 bet and made a lot of SLOW money. Went back the next day, about an hour in was up to $256 bet which was about all the money I had in the world. I was thinking to myself, in a nervous sweat, if this bet wins I only win a dollar!!! What am I doing? The bet lost, I was down $500 and busted out. No rent, no food money. Had to borrow money from friends until my pay check the following week. 6,7,8,9,10 reds/greens in a row, not as uncommon as people think.

I have NEVER ignored the math since. Tell your friend good luck from me. He has my condolences.

This always works for me:

Approach table with positive attitude. . .

While drinking a Coors Light. . .

Place approximately $25 on 13 Black. . .

When it hits rejoice.

I'm here to help.
There is no system that can beat the house edge of 5.26% on the 00 wheel.
I have a friend who told me that he had a Double Up betting strategy.

And so then I said, "Ok, so listen to this. You bet $5 and you lose and then you bet $10 and you lose, and then you bet $20 and you lose and then you bet $40 and you lose and then you bet $80 and you win. Do you know what you have just done? You have risked $80 to win $5! Do you really think that that's a good bet?"

There was silence for about at least 40 seconds and then he said, "You know, I never thought about it that way! It is a bad bet!"

And I then said, "Yes, it is a bad bet and please, for your own sake, do not do it again!"

I would simply advise him to not take any more money to vegas than he could offord to loose, then ask him how his "system" worked when he got back.

We have all been spanked at one time or another and this guy (like the rest of us) will try his system anyway, so try to help him minimise his losses.

I guess when you stop and think about it, all vegas game have a negitive mathmatical expectation, so in truth, none of us should be betting in the 1st place

of coarse if his system does work, please post it on these boards so I can try it!

There are actually some Video Poker games that do have a positive expectation in and of themselves (specifically 10/7/5 Double Bonus Poker, the 10/6 Version of Double Double Bonus Poker, and the Full-Pay Deuces Wild game) and then there can be positive expectation when some high enough returning games are combined with the returns from Slot Club membership.

But I can't say that Roulette will ever be a positive expectation game, and so I definitely can not recommend any wild betting strategy with that game.

Why don't you tell your friend to do the Martingale system on Craps (Pass line) rather than Roulette? The Pass Line has only a 1.4% house advantage vs the 5.3% advantage of Roulette. Both won't win in the long run but you have a lot better chance winning playing Craps.
