Roulette info needed

Going to bump this post as I find it amusing, and wondering how his friend came out on his "method". I also have a story to share.

Once upon a time (about 5 years ago) I was stumbling around the strip w/my husband. At that time, I liked the field bet on the craps table (I know-terrible odds) you can get in - bet- get out. Anyway, I threw $10 on the field. Lost. Threw $20 on the field. Lost. Threw $40 on the field...you guessed it...Lost.

My husband was getting irritated watching this spectacle, and we were almost out of cash. I said, "give me $80 bucks" and he said, "no way". I said, "c'mon, give me $80 bucks!" He handed the money over to me. I threw it down. Two sixes came up which paid 3:1 and I made $240 on that roll....whew. We grabbed the money and got the hell out of there. Never again. Stupid, stupid, stupid...but I guess it's also a little thrilling.
Is this a bump again?

Anyway, the bottom line with Martingale (and all the variations out there) is that there's no way to add up a bunch of negative expectations and get a positive expectation. Can't tell you how many friends have "discovered" a Martingale-like system and confided in me, as though they were the only person on the planet to have ever thought of it. Now, the problem is that it works maybe 90% of the time, so most of the time, your friends come back and tell you that they played all night and won $40 or 50, and all that math crap that I pay attention to is just for eggheads who have probably never gambled, and it doesn't work in the "real world" like it does on a computer. Of course, the 10% of the time when they wipe out all of the previous winnings with a $6400 bad run, you don't hear about that...
Only time roulette odds have been beat is when the dealers were in on it, they did find away to hit approx. one third of the numbers by spinning just right. It was a skill. The casinos figured it out and the dealers no longer can look at the wheel when they spin.

Actually there have been a fair number of times roulette odds have been beat and without the dealers being involved. This site lists just some of them

gandalfguinn - Tell your friend that the real money in Vegas is made by owning prime property. And I am just the man he needs to talk to. Because I like him, I will sell him the famous "Welcome To Las Vegas" sign and parking spaces for $500. He will make a fortune charging people a couple dollars to park and have their picture taken. Heck, I will even throw in the Bellagio for another $1000. Once he has made some money, we can negotiate McCarran Airport.
