Short Story with Gambling Theme

I was fortunate enough to have a story included in a book available Monday. The book is titled Driving Southern. It's a collection of coming-of-age automobile stories. My story happens to have a gambling theme, so I'm giving anyone interested a heads up.

The book is available on Amazon and is edited by Michael Braswell and Ralph Bland. My particular story is titled, "The Car Makes the Man."

If you get a chance, please check it out. I'm excited and pleased to have been included with some fine writers.

It sounds like an interesting book. I'll check it out.

The cars I drove when I was coming of age, every time I got behind the wheel, it was a gamble :)

Congratulations, and it sounds like a fun read.  As Kevin mentioned, "coming of age" driving cannot be listed among my finest of hours back then.  LOL.

Thanks, everyone. My coming-of-age cars were mostly junk, even my beloved Dodge Dart. The car that's the topic of this story was someone else's vehicle, but it introduced me to a whole different world.

Congrats on publication!

As the Car Guys used to say about the Dodge Dart: "Failure is not an option. It comes standard."

Here is one of my memories,  1967, 18 years old.  53 ford I had paid 75 bucks for.  I later  paid $7.50 for another 53 ford to use as a parts car.  Towed the parts car to a garage I was working in after school and weekends.  Removed the brake shoes from the parts car and put them on my daily driver.  The next day driving home from High School, I crashed into a building because my brakes failed.

So the old saying "You get what you pay for" is about right?  Good story.

I've heard guys say that FORD stands for "Found On The Road Dead", or "Fix Or Repair Daily."

Then again, my husband says it stands for "First On Race Day."   LOL.

Wow, that sounds like a good book to read. I will go ahead and check it out once I have the time to do so.

Brilliant. I loved my Dodge Dart. As kids, we would sing "We all live in a little green Dart" to the tune of Yellow Submarine.

And yes, "Fix Or Repair Daily" was the acronym for Ford in my little town circa 1975.
