slot bonus round question

Here's a question thats been bugging me.....

You know how when you get a bonus round on a slot machine...and three boxes pop up on the screen....you choose one of the three boxes and win the prize behind it. Is that truly a manual process or predetermined? In other words, if I choose Box 1 and recieve $10...is that because I chose BOX 1....or did the machine already determine I won $10 and was going to show me that regardless of which box I chose?
I wonder the same thing. Usually I choose the wrong box. I sort of dread bonus rounds where you have to choose for that reason.

I've always assumed it's because you chose Box 1. If that's not the case, then it's kind of depressing
because that means it doesn't matter what you pick in a bonus round.

Well supposedly from what I've read in (I think) the American Casino Guide and on its website, what you pick supposedly determines what you end up getting.

Supposedly, when the round starts, all of the different amounts are under (behind) each respective box and so if you choose good, then you'll get a higher (or maybe the highest) score.

It supposedly is random and supposedly your skill of picking whatever box you choose will make the difference on how much you end up getting.

Dave: respectfully disagree that "skill" of picking the box is applicable. "Luck" might be more appropriate, no?

Fredo,

Let me make myself clearer with this. I actually more meant that the choice that the Player will make will determine what the prize ends up being since unless the Player has some kind of Extra Sensory Perception, only these specific people will know which box is the best to pick.

So yes, it's not skill per-se since at least the vast vast majority of us have no idea what the probabilities are or where the numbers are.

But at the end of the day, it is still our choice that makes the difference and supposedly where the different amounts are put is on a random basis.

Also, players are just taking a shot at whatever box they pick!

PJ,s Question jogged my memory about an episode on MythBusters about picking between 3 doors. Called the Monty Hall Paradox, If the bounus round is on the up and up. This episode may be of some help as to which door or box to pick. If nothing else it is interesting.
The Monty Hall paradox, or whatever it's called, is different; you pick one of three doors, Monty shows you a losing door, and you have to decide whether to keep your original pick or switch to the other door. It's a classical game theory problem, not really applicable to the bonus round.

PJ asks an interesting question, though. I'm guessing that you're really picking, since it's still random that way and the Gaming Control Board may consider it misrepresentation to the player if the game works differently than represented. Not sure, though.
The RNG assigns one prize to each box, then offers you a choice of boxes. What you win depends on which box you pick. The RNG does not assign you a single prize, then give it to you no matter which box you pick.
Stopped in at the Gold Coast on wife's birthday and scanned her card she picked a balloon or somehting and got 5000 points. She picked the red one. Just before she picked the red one she made a comment about the picking the Blue one but did not select it. Sure enough behind the blue was 250,000 bonus points :<;
