South Point's June promo

This one may be pretty good. You earn 750 points on slots or 2,500 points on video poker (@ $1 coin-in = 1 point) and you get a virtual wheel spin, right there at your machine. The smallest prize is $5 free play, then 2,500 points (which is worth $7.50), and on up from there. You can earn up to four spins a day. The promo starts on the 6th and runs Mon-Thu.

The best game is NSUD, which is available on dozens of machines. That's 99.73%. The slot club pays 0.3%. If you always got the worst prize, that would still be an additional 0.2% return ($2,500/$5). Making the reasonable assumption that you sometimes will get larger prizes, that's got to be at least 0.3% in actuality. And an additional 0.3% is the benchmark South Point spiff, as seen in their other monthly recurring promos, the gift cards and the points count double deals.

Two observations: in the past, the better prizes have seemed to "clump up" toward the last few days of the promotion, possibly because they allocate X dollars to give away no matter what. Last time I played a similar SP promo, the largest prize was $50 and I got $50, $50, $25, and $25 food. The second observation is that the spin trigger seems to happen before you actually get to the point earning threshold. When it was 2,000 points to get a spin, it would actually trigger a little after 1,700 points earned.

So this is worthwhile no matter what in that it makes the best games go positive, and it might be very good during the last few days of the promo. You can wrap your daily $10,000 coin-in around a trip to the boofay, which for now, at least, is the best deal in town.

Here are the details

Two points about this promo:

1. The South Point had this promo a few times: January 2020, July 2020, January 2021, and July 2021. Back then it was always 2,000 points per spin. And as Kevin said the spin was often triggered at around the 1,700 - 1,800 point level.

2. There may be some validity in Kevin's hypothesis about the bigger payoffs skewing towards thge end of the month. Last July Mrs. Don and I each hit the 100,000 point award. Me on the 19th of the month and her on the 26th. But other than that there are no indications in my records for the four months of the promo that there is any "clumping". However the sample size is only 310 spins for all four months, so who knows?

I'll be there the week of 6/20.  This is my favorite promotion they have as well.

I haven't really noticed the "clumping" either but I'm no where near your 310 spins over the years.

And yes it would typically trigger a little before 2K.  I was closer to 1,950 though.

Give us some updates Don week by week if you can.

My wife and I decided to play at Southpoint in June to try the spin 2 win promo. We've got a couple of questions that, hopefully, someone can answer.

When the $ required is reached, how is the U-Spin button displayed on the machine? Will it be readily evident to a person getting a snoot full while playing? Asking for a friend.  Will we be able to change machines and still keep the points aquired towards a spin on the new machine?

Yeah, it'll be pretty obvious--there's a display window that normally shows your point balance, and it'll light up with the virtual wheel and the SPIN button. Plus, if memory serves, there's an audio announcement (music or something) as well. Pretty hard to miss.

To your second question, a qualified "yes," as there are two counters in the aforementioned display window, one with your overall total points and one with your daily/session points. However, the session point counter sometimes resets to 0 when you change to a new machine. That shouldn't make any difference, but I think there's a real danger that it will. Your accumulated 500 or 1200 or whatever points may be added to your overall point total, but the bonus spin may be based on your session point counter.

Because I've had even my "daily" point counter reset to zero when I change machines (which it shouldn't), I would say, stay at the same machine and don't switch until you trigger the spin. If you switch, there's a nonzero chance IMHO that you may have to start over on your bonus accumulation.

Thanks Kevin.

We should get accustomed to the counters pretty quick. We will probably play on my card or hers since the Southpoint allows that. We are trying to get mailers from them and the higher the tier the better the mailer we hope. I'll definitely ask at the club about the U-Spin button showing up. Will the button materialize at one of the machines with the total points earned combined? Will both cards be eligible for a U-Spin with separate point totals on both even though they're the same account? We'll be using one card for two days in June and July. Hopefully that will get us a good mailer, the Spin 2 Win is a bonus.

I don't have any experience playing multiple cards, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

In my experience, South Point doesn't send mailers. At all. (At least, not to out-of-towners.) However, they do generate offers. They just don't tell you about them! Many's the time I've idly checked (at my machine) and found free play on my account.

As far as room offers are concerned, definitely get yourself set up with a host. Like the free play, I've checked with my host and been told that I had two or three free nights coming. Again, they've never notified me directly of any of this. They also seem to be emailphobic. In over fifteen years of playing there on a regular basis--at least a couple of times a year, sometimes much more often--I've never received any kind of direct communication from them, up to and including a message on the side of the Goodyear blimp. However, I have gotten comps, including comps at checkout based on my play during that trip.

I should also mention that my standard play level--$6-8K per day--was more than enough to get room comps prior to mid-2021. But since then, they haven't been willing to give me shit--and I've asked my hosts directly about that. So apparently, they, like everyone else, have tightened up.

Also, in the past, I've found that the offers I get (however they show up) have been much more generous after a bloodbath and much more stingy after a winning trip. That's stupid and illogical, of course, as action is what should matter, not results. I don't know if they're still using that yardstick.

I'd be interested in hearing how well or poorly your play gets rewarded.

Thanks to David I called the Southpoint and talked to host Rebecca. Tried for Jamie, but he is off. There are no tiers at The Club, but she said playing on one card would be beneficial for comps. There are no assigned hosts so a person talks to any of them. If there are no quarterly mailers generated, the hosts will look at the play and give you what they can. Partly based on time played, games played, money played and win/loss. She was very friendly and answered all my questions. After our play in June,  we'll ask for a comped room for July just to test the waters. After our first nights play in June, we'll ask for a buffet comp for the next day. All we're looking for is comped rooms for two nights with a comped buffet for our normal play. Hopefully, we'll get enough points with our play to eat any other meals using them. We should put $10 - 12 k through the machines daily. If not, we have had a terrible time gaming.

I receive a mailer every quarter - each for a 3 month period. My usual offer is two free nights with some free play and a resort credit, mostly for any day of the week, and occasionally for Sun- Thursday. If I need/want more than 2 nights, I ask the reservation person, they look up my account and usually authorize another night for free.If they aren't able to authorize additional night(s), they refer me to a slot host and the host usually grants the additional night for no charge. Most of my trips are extended stays for 10- 14 days, staying at multiple casinos. I like to begin my trips by staying at the South Point because it is close to the car rental location - I also like to end my trip by staying at the South Point because, again, it is close to the car rental location. By staying there at the end of my trip I usually get the host to set up a late check out and spend the day at South Point. I like to fly back home the last flight of the day so that I can enjoy my last day in Vegas. For the end of my trip stay at South Point, I set up, thru the slot host, reservations for the last days - this reservation is in addition to the reservation that my mailer gave me. Needless to say, I like South Point and the way that I am treated with my offers. Also, because of my play, I never have a problem with asking for and receiving a comp to eat, whether it is for the buffet, cafe, Steak and Shake or for one of the restaurants. I never abuse my food comps by running up a tab. My comp offers have not really changed for the past 4-5 years, and I am OK with that. I believe that once you are on their radar and receive mailers, you will continue to receive future mailers as long as your play is consistant.
