South Point's June promo

I too get quarterly offers and I do about $8-$10K a day.  (play VP and poker mainly)  Basically what David gets and the hosts are friendly but I also won't abuse the food comps.  I think that is good advice.  I go maybe 4-5x a year which may help me as I think they look at annual $'s through for quarterly mailers Kevin.  They definitely will comp better Kevin when you get pounded and it goes for the next trip as well.

As far a spin goes......if you are on a machine with no volume and you are a bit toasty, it is possible to miss it.  :)

I always turn the volume down on a machine, if possible. If not, I'll call a slot floor person to do it. At the Southpoint, in June, I'll increase the volume.

I'll never go into a casino thinking that I'll lose. Winning may be my downfall for generating comps. If the hosts are constrained by a winning session, this might not be the slot club for me.

True Rewards at the Aquarius and AZ Charlies is better for comps at $3.33 to 3 per thousand points, worse for free play at $2 to 3 per thousand points and a horrible $1 to 3 per thousand points for cash back. With the tier system, we get comped rooms whenever we want. We get free play weekly along with vouchers for 7500 points. They even bring in a beer for me to enjoy on my first nights play (I only drink the first night).

Why are we looking at the Southpoint? Just because we'd like to have a different casino for a change. Playing the same casino over and over gets to be a little stale after enough sessions. The same machines, food outlets and rooms become boring.

That was what was so nice about Stations. We had free rooms at multiple properties. With their new stance on out of state seniors, they are no longer playable.

For those who smoke, at South Point you can ask for and get a pack of cigrettes when playing video poker when you acumulate 1200 points when playing. The point totals continue to increase even when you move to another video poker machine and are displayed while you are playing. All you have to do after accumulating your 1200 (+) points is turn on the service light and ask.

How much smoke are we likely to encounter at Southpoint? If there is a lot, we'll keep looking for another casino to play at. We don't remember there being a lot of smoke when we did play several years ago. I'll be playing at the 400 bar, probably. In front of the Crown Royal bar, too. The bars supposedly have 8/5 BP at all and 9/6 JoB at the 400.

I personally have never had a problem with "smoke" at the South Point.

Unfortunately, this is South Point's biggest negative. Don't ask me why, but there are a LOT of smokers there at all hours. And despite the casino floor being essentially one huge open area, the ventilation systems don't take care of it.

To make matters worse, there are several regulars who smoke truly awful cigars, and by "regulars," I mean it seems like they're there ALL the time. They stinkify everything within a fifty-yard radius. Truly awful.

There are some areas where there's a little more clearance around you and you might be able to hide out: by the bar near the showroom, on the east side of the high limit room, near the front desk, and by the poker room. I know all this because whenever I play at South Point, I have to keep switching machines to get away from the pigarette smoke. Sometimes there'll be no one else in sight, and ten minutes later some asshole will materialize like he dropped from the ceiling and light up.

My ultimate solution is to become a nocturnal animal, which is probably a good idea in Vegas in the summer anyway. If I play from, say, 10 pm to 6 am, I'll have the place mostly to myself. And I can stop midway through and have the late night breakfast special.

David and Kevin thanks for your opinions. We'll keep our plans to play at Southpoint and hope for fewer smokers around us. May the royals be with you.

Jerry Ice,

We went to South Point today. Approximately 2,450 points got you a spin. Spins were nothing to write home about. Together we had 8 spins with a value of $90. This equates to a return .46%.

Thanks Don.  Not great but essentially 2.5x points.  I'll let you know how I do in a few weeks.

I have to concur with Kevin on this.  As much as I love the Southpoint, the VP cigarette players seem to surround me and I also will cash out and move somewhere else.  About the only drawback of SP.
