South Point's June promo

Saying that your results has nothing to do with the casino's bottom line is absurd. Casinos base their profits and losses on their bottom line which is generated by everyone who gambles in their casino, including you. And apparently, EV is not the only criteria casinos currently use when giving comps, I am sure that their ability to track a person's wins/losses via computer data figures in to the comp formula. I could be wrong, but I am sure that, if pressed, the casinos would vefify what I have said here as being true.

I agree with David on that Kevin.  If you are a long-term net winner......your comps can easily disappear.  They may simply not want your play if you are only doing NSUD $0.25 only.

That said, I've already stated in this thread that SP had no idea I was way down after my two years there.  They seem to just look back at last 12 months and one host actually verified that to me that is not there anymore.

You didn't understand. My individual results are irrelevant in terms of what I'm worth to the casino. The games I play, how I play them, and the amounts I risk are what matter.

The casino figures to make the same amount of money overall whether or not I win today or this week or this trip. That's what I mean when I say my results don't affect their bottom line. It's my PLAY that affects their bottom line, and as long as my play is relatively consistent, whether I win or lose truly doesn't matter.

Get it?

Perhaps--but why did they want my play for 15+ years and then suddenly change to not wanting it, when the amount and quality of my play changed very little?

Only thing I can think of is a comp change but that will bode poorly for me as well.  My quarterly flier this quarter was down to only two free nights Sun-Thurs.  And I haven't done anything but breakeven there on trips this year and put through the same $ on same type of machines.  Some $500-$750 down trips as well.  I'll let you know what my mailer is like for 4th quarter but I won't get that until early Sept.  (if I get a mailer)  No mailer would be a very bad sign for me.

Jerry, FWIW, I have has the exact similar thing happen to me with my mailers - after I had a winning stay at South Point. I believe that their real time computer analysis of my play and their current comping guidelines are structured this way. Even so, I am still able to call, speak with a host and I have never been turned down for aditional room comps, unless South Point was sold out for the days I requested. I suggest you give calling a host a try - the worst that can happen is that they can't help you.

Agreed.....I usually email my host and just tell her my offer and ask if what she can do for a 3rd or 4th night possibly. (I'm usually never there more than 4 nights anyway)  And I'm very low maintenance about it of course.

Not sure you guys know this or not but you can get casino rate for playing 4 hours of poker a day at SP. (it's usually $80 all in with tax)  I've kind of morphed over the years from a BJ counter in my 20s (90s all over LV) to VP player in my 30s and 40s but I really am souring on VP for reasons Kevin and many others have stated. (pay table devaluations, no points, no multi points days, smoking, etc)  I've really swayed towards live poker since my early 40s.  Sure it is slower but you can enjoy a gm on tv or whatever, enjoy some drinks and usually the table can be kind of social (or you can just table change) and honestly, it's a guaranteed win in the long run as long as you do some reading and keep making your game better.  I'll play 4/8 limit if the room has good promotions.  I'll play 1/2 or 1/3 limit if not.  I just find using your brain a bit more when "gambling" is way more appealing.  I track every session result I've had in poker since like 2013.  It is kind of scary what % of my sessions I win on versus VP.

Does anyone know what next month's promotion is?

You will probably need to call South Point - I have never been able to find out what their monthly promotions are until the 1st of each month. Good luck.

Kevin, here's what you don't get. The folks who run casinos are above all marketers, and marketing goals can differ from strictly evaluating the theoretical value of your play.

For example, with identical coin-in, South Point tends to give better comps to you after you have an unlucky month, and then gives you lower comps when you have won money, at least according to Bob Dancer. Why would it make sense to do that, even though your theoretical value doesn't change? Because when you cash out with all those Benjamins and you get that hit of dopamine, you'll probably be back regardless. Hence, they don't have to bribe you with comps. On the other hand, if you lose, they need to come up with an enticement to get you back.

Caesars, Stations, and other casinos have figured out that customers who put $80,000 through a machine in one day and then leave town are a lot more valuable than customers who play $20,000 per day over four days. So they reward the one-day heavy hitter much more, even though the theoretical doesn't change. I don't really know why that makes sense to them, but I'm humble to realize that the casinos know more about this stuff than I do.

If they were truly rational and scientific, and studied my play at the very least, they'd discover that the amount and frequency of my play has NOT been affected by my results. It shouldn't be, insofar as I play for value and whether I realize that value in the short term doesn't affect that.

However, you're probably right that the average Joe is more inclined to come back after a big score but needs some encouragement after getting creamed. So if they use that metric overall, and it looks like they do, yeah, we'll get punished for winning and rewarded for losing.
