Tipping with a Gift card instead of Cash????? Interesting

In going through the forum I read of a reader that prefers tipping with a gift card vs cash...I tried to find the letter but can't seem to find it. I find this appealing. For me it is not unusual at all to get a W2 form. I have always been one to toke when getting a win not necessarily an overly large one but never the less a bit of my money. A little better than 50% of the time I have said to my self .....For the appreciation I am sensing....I wish I had the strength not to toke....But I choose not to fly that way.....According to what I read the person that makes the hand pay gets to keep the card and it is not shared with the whole crew......I like this and think I might get might have a few mainstream gift cards to hand out when I get a W2 in the future. I understand the culture of gaming and am not a practitioner of leaving nothing when getting a W2 but the gift card idea resonates with me. I would like to thank the person on the forum that gave me this idea. I am aware of the Hosts but do not interact with them very often unless it is for the rare meal or a perk of some type and my central focus in this note is in regards to tipping out for a W2/HandPay on the gaming floor.
As far as I recall, posts about tipping with a gift card regarded tipping of Hosts.

You try it next time with a slot attendant, and let us know what happened.

The only time I recall being snubbed for a tip of any amount, for any service, was at a high end hotel when bags were brought to our room.

I extended a $5 to the guy, our standard tip for this always received graciously in the past.

This guy refused it.
I insisted, kept on insisting, please take it!

He projected "attitude" as he kept refusing it, shaking his head, waving me off.

Because the room was a very nice suite, would he have assumed we were being cheap?
High rollers insulting him with a puny five dollar bill?

Were we being cheap? If so, too bad for him. His loss. Jerk!

Anyway, didn't mean to hijack, but your mention of not being appreciated for a tip reminded me of this encounter.
i know gift cards are common for hosts, but it sounds like a good idea to me for the slot attendants as well. I stock up on various gift cards at the Kroger supermarket when they offer 4x fuel points. when it comes to gifts, I like practical, cash or gift cards, nothing tacky or re-gifted.

Heck, I would walk the suitcases up the stairs for $5.

If that happened to me, I would have taken that same $5 bill
and inserted it in a dollar video poker machine, just to see what the Tip Gods rewarded me with

That was incredibly rude of him, Candy. I think I would have reported that kind of attitude to management. Tipping is so overdone anyway. I'm not cheap, but the type of room or suite I have and the class of hotel isn't going to change the amount I give to Bell Services. It's bad enough that it's the norm to tip at drop off AND when they deliver!

I, too, think gift cards for hosts is the norm, but I've never heard of anyone using gift cards to tip on a hand pay. Not a bad idea, really, but are you giving each attendant a gift card or just one that can't be split? There's always two people when you get a hand pay because they have to have someone there to verify payment.

I used to go overboard tipping on a hand pay ($600 to all attendants present when I hit for $20k in 2004) and $100-$200 on a $4k royal, but I cut back to $20 per hand pay now, no matter if it's $1200 or $8,000 (never got another $20k - boo).
Mare, I thought about reporting him, but what would I say?

"That bellman wouldn't take my tip. Boo hoo." They'd think I was nuts.

I'd have had to do a 'live performance', hand wave and all, for them to fully appreciate the extent of his snub. LOL

Then they would REALLY think they had a wacko on their hands.

I don't tip nearly as much for jackpots as I used to do either, Mare.
tips of half of one percent on jackpots is plenty. especially when you consider that you are probably still in the negative for the year. when your sitting there losing your a$$ they couldn't care less about ya!
Yeah, I guess you're right, Candy! That would be kinda hard to get across without seeming like a wacko. lol

vegasdev -- right, you rarely get so much as a "hello" when you're sitting there losing your a$$! I'm up so far this year, but I have a lot of trips planned (and more to schedule), so there's no guarantee I won't be down by years end. I'm just tired of handing over so much money to people doing their jobs! Having someone act like they did to Candy would surely send me over the edge. 'Security, there's a brawl in suite # 12345!" lol

Rick, if you'd had to tote the bags up the stairs, I'd have given you $10.
I didn't think fast enough.
I could have taken that $5 bill to High Limit for one pull...ha.
Duplication. Sorry.
