Top Dollar Slots - When to accept the offer?

I'm not up on slot machines but do play Top Dollar for a specific set of circumstances where free play is involved. I play the 3 x $1 coin version (not sure if there are other ones or now....this just seems to be what's available where I play). When you get the Top Dollar bonus and up to four offers, is there a minimum number of credits where you'd take the offer?

I tried to find out of there was such a thing as a known mathematical average by checking the Wizard of Odds site but couldn't find anything.

From previous anecdotal experience, I'm thinking it's somewhere between 35-40 credits. Anyone have better advice? I know there's a potential risk of getting too greedy so I'm just trying to determine when it's a good deal to just accept the offer even though there are a few more potential offers.

Thanks in advance.

Dan
i've taken the first offer when it seems good and waited and gotten burnt on the last so heres my advice, its a crap shoot.....
Dan,
There is a $1 game right by the machines I play at the 4Q. I can hear when it lands on the bonus offers. Many times I'll take a break and watch/listen to the offers. From a purely observational standpoint (no math involved), I think that $35 is the trigger point...i.e. accept if $35 or higher, redraw if $30 or lower.

My husband and I have played these off and on for years ... If we are playing the $1 top dollar and are not down to our last few pulls, we will keep trying Hoping for the bigger pay amount unless we get offered maybe $100 or more...

Depending on how it's going I'll usually take anything 45 or over. I actually hit one for 1000 at PH in January and that was on my 3rd offer.

In our slot playing days many years ago at Harrah's, we were playing $ slots and doing pretty well so we decidecd to play a $5 machine. We wanted to play a DD machine and it was not open so we went to a Top Dollar. We were offered 35 coins. At $5 thats a nice hit, but decided to pass. The next offer was 205. Whoo hoo! This was in the coin dropper days. We had to fill a rack with $5 coins. Of course we took that. Funny thing is we can't seem to want to play slots today as we play predominatly vp. That was about the only time I had any luck at the $5 level. We have a lot of memories. $20 in a Wheel of Fortune while waiting for hubby to go to the John got a spin for the $1000, and so on, lol!
Thanks everyone for your replies. I think Don's comment is in line with my experience. I'm a bit anal about these things and like to have a specific number in mind that I don't deviate from....not your typical slot player, I guess.

I know it's impossible to know when you should take the offer or when you should try again. It's a bit of a burn when you don't take a fairly weak offer of say 20 or 25 credits and wind up with something work like 15.

My objective with this play isn't necessarily to win money....that would be nice of course.....but the idea is that I need to run $2K through to get $420 in free play and in doing so, I want to minimize the loss.

Thanks again,

Dan
I love the Top Dollar machines! I am hoping to still find some in town when I visit Las Vegas in a few weeks. Though I play at the 25 cent level, much lower than your level of play, my general of thumb is that if I get an offer of 40 (or more), I take it. No scientific reason, just seems to work most of the time.
Good question! I've often wondered the same thing, thanks for asking Dan.

Agree with Judy. When in doubt, I like the $ WofF.
One of the Last times I played at Ven. My one & only spin, landed on $1,000
I've never had luck on the quarters, but the $ can be fruitful at times.

I had a cocktail waitress point out the blue display on the bottom left of the Top Dollar machine. She said it would tell me whether to take the offer. It will say something like "Best bet take offer" or "Best bet try again". Don't believe it. I tried it a few times. There were times it said try again on every offer. The fourth offer was less the previous offers. I knew that there was no way it was really going to tell the truth, but I just had to prove it to myself. LOL!
