Top Dollar Slots - When to accept the offer?

Thoughts?

Easy, you play $5 per credit. and 5 lines, or $25 a pull.

Simple stuff. Simple mistake.

OUTSTANDING RESULTS!
So, yes, Fredo, instead of your playing Five coins (or, was this a two or three coin machine?) at the $1 level, you ended up playing at the $5 level (maybe if it was a two or three coin machine then you would have been) playing at $10 or $15 per pull (unless it was a five coin machine and then you would have been playing at $25 a pull).

Fredo, I have no idea what you did but gotta admit I like the results. LOL

I have some friends who think that if you get a good offer on the 1st try that you should throw it out on the presumption that it'll get better from there. I on the other hand still stand by the range of 35-40 credits. It's fun watching people play it on $5 and up machines.....the actual cash starts growing exponentially.....not so easy to turn down 30 credits when each one is worth $50 or $100. I wish I had such problems....

This particular Top Dollar machine is at an Indian casino, fwiw, and I put in a $50 TITO. Then I notice three buttons: $1, $2, and $5. I think I noticed there were 5 lines, so I figure, oh, $1 per line so I'll play $5 - I hit the $5 button. One spin, and I got a cherry in the middle surrounded by a bunch of other symbols which didn't seem to line up - I won 6 credits. I figure, ok, that's one more than I put in, so I'll try again. On this spin, I could see some symbols lined up at the top and I was awarded 4 picks. The first pick said 65 credits - I recalled the earlier advice in this very post but shoot - I get three more picks so maybe they'll up the ante. (I think at this point some of you are chuckling at my naivete, but I was in uncharted waters.) Next pick said 40 credits. I could see it was going in the wrong directions, but hey, let's see one more pick. This one said 60 credits and I didn't want to see any more - I accepted it. At that point I figured life wasn't going to get any better so I cashed out - to my surprise, the TITO had $330 on it. I'm still not sure just what I did. (And this is why I don't play slots!) Thoughts?

Fredo, I don't play slots much, but I think you were playing 5-lines @ $5 per credit. So each spin cost $25.

Insert $50 tito.
First spin 5 credits cost: -$25; Win 6 credits: +$30
After first spin $50 - $25 + $30 = Total $55
Second spin 5 credits cost: - $25; Win 60 credits: +$300
After second spin $55 - $25 + $300 = Total $330

Yes, Fredo, I did not read that carefully enough and Agnes was right.

What you ended up doing was playing all Five lines at the $5 level, so then each pull you had was a $25 bet per pull at one time.

So with a $50 TITO, you actually had enough money for two whole pulls! And so you just got extremely fortunate!

But all I can say to you is "Good For You!"

Thanks all, and thanks esp. to Agnes for doing the calcs - it all makes sense now. The fact that I was betting $25 a pull on a slot machine makes me shudder - not doin' that again! Know when to fold 'em, I guess. And it helps to be extremely lucky!

fredo
So yes, Fredo, you got extremely lucky and ended up winning $280 in two spins! It's very good that you stopped immediately since you were betting at $25 per pull!

RecVPPlayer
Fredo,
you got VERY luck indeed.
played the dollar version at Rio-- got offered 25, then 35... then 30.. final offer was $30.00 ..DOUBLED!
Yay.. !

If it did, it wouldn't be gambling!

We went to Vegas earlier in the month. Played a lot of Top Dollar and still believe in the 35 rule. I purposely let a couple go just to see what would happen. I think I had 15 on one and 20 on the other. NYNY has only 3-coiners (except on the high limit machines) but we found lots of $1 doublers at MGM and did okay. I had one offer of 50 - times 2. Yes, I took it.
