Underage gambling: How often do casinos check?

Two incidents come to mind. About 7 years ago, I was playing blackjack at the old Barbary Coast. Sat next to a girl who'd have had trouble passing for 16. She looked 14. The dealer asked her age and when she said, "I'm 21." that was the end of it. They let her continue.
Conversely, a couple years later at a downtown casino, I watched two guys who both said they were 26 (looked 30) have their IDs scrutinized for about 20 minutes. There seems to be a lot of inconsistency with this issue. Has anyone else seen a pit boss or any employee demand an ID?

I've been in Vegas with young looking friends a few times. Most casinos will give your a non-removable bracelet you can wear . Once a guard or dealer sees that, they won't bother you again. While in AC for a
concert at the Taj, my friend was asked for id four times in less than ten minutes. He was 27, but looked 16. Security hooked him up with a bracelet, but when we hit the Casbah they still asked to see his id.
The bracelets are a good idea. Saves everyone time and hassles.
I was the Exculiber a couple of years ago and I saw a family mum dad and 2 children about 10 years old playing on the slots near one exit. I reported them to security , who didnt seem that bothered
My son is 26 and still gets carded reg in Vegas--he mostly plays BJ
but gets carded MORE when he asks for/orders an adult beverage.

My daughter turned 21 last year and just walked around with her ID
in her pocket and would pull it out when it even "looked" like they
were going to ask her. . . . it got kinda funny after awhile. . . . . She
said the only ones that didn't ask her for her ID/ie--if she was old
enuf were the Blue Man group when they invited her to come up on
stage and be part of the show. She said she was ready to show them
her ID tho!!!!

Sounds like similar experiences to what my kids had jeanhaka! lol
The older one got carded more than the younger one.
Older one has more of a baby face, so he had his ID ready to go.

Agree, Casino seems to ask more often when the Big kids are ordering a beer, than playing slots.

I've often thought the 20-somethings should just wear a Lanyard with their ID insdie, lol.

No excuse for Excal Security to NOT do their jobs.
Little kids should NOT be allowed in gaming area. Period.
The joke in the old days was that minors could gamble, as long as they didn't win. I guess once you started winning, they'd check your id and bounce you.

When I'm playinc craps at the strat, I think I see someone get carded about once an hour. "But I'm not gambling", they'll say. "Doesn't matter" is the reply.
I worked 12 years in casino surveillance in a previous life, both in Las Vegas and in the midwest. I can't speak for every casino, but the ones I worked for took undrage gambling very seriously. ID's were checked all the time by security, pit bosses, etc. Minors were warned and escorted out, even arrested in cases of repeat offenders or false ID. Metro would do an occasional sting as well to keep everyone on their toes. There is far too much at stake for a casino to look the other way when it comes to undrage gambling.

That is true so long as regulations that limit the casino business are enforced.

Even though maintaining a positive public image is good for the overall casino business, we may soon enter an era where regulation of business activity is seen as an evil and decreased, causing less scrupulous casinos to see a business opportunity in allowing children to gamble.
On my 30th B-Day, I stayed overnight at the Primadonna (yes, it was that long ago) as it was halfway point between my home in Cali and my mom in Utah (who was taking my son for a week's visit.) I was depressed at turning 30 PLUS had a nasty case of bronchitis. What made it great was not only winning my first W2-G jackpot but being carded the next day when I was cashing in several tubs of quarters! The icing on the cake was a little octogenarian lady who was standing next to me and said, "shit, I've NEVER been carded!"
My wife gets carded a lot. She's 35 but looks really young (which is AWESOME!!). She doesn't get mad; she actually thanks them for doing so, and gives them a wink and a smile. More than one have told her when they're done w/ their shift if they could buy her a drink.

Our last trip in August, I was by the bingo room at Santa Fe Station playing Goldfish, and these 2 heathens around 10-ish were running around me and playing, then fighting, then crying, all while the grandmother stood at the door watching people play. I didn't call security; I told the kids to knock it off or the police will take them to jail. The grandmother didn't even pay attention. Nice...
