vegas still has value

Those who hate Vegas might consider no longer visiting.  I moved from Strip hotels to downtown hotels about 20 years ago.  I'm guessing that I'll move to other hotels in the future as the downtown value proposition decreases.

That being said, I'll never understand the venom.

Well, the "venom," as you call it, which I guess is a label you can assign to criticism, is from people who know Vegas--or at least what Vegas used to be--being appalled that Vegas has turned from a bargain fun destination to a not-all-that-fun gougefest.

But saying that criticizing the present conditions is "hating Vegas" is stupid, and sounds like something a fat cat casino exec would say.

30+m people a year go to Vegas & have a good time. Sourpuss Kevin (maybe) goes & complains about everything.

If Kevin doesn't like it, don't go. Try to enjoy life.

While Vegas has become expensive, Kevin should check hotel prices in other tourist locations such as Hawaii, Disney World, NY, Chicago, LA & Phoenix. Meals are expensive as well as show & sporting events.

Compared to those locations Vegas is still cheap. Staying next week @ the Luxor all in for less than $100, a show @ Southpoint for $25

Tom may not be aware that he's already paid for those "cheap" rooms many, many times over.

Vegas is getting away with the gouge because of suckers. Tom's right, he's one of many such folks.

Good luck Tom.  I too have checked on going to florida or south  carolina and it is tripple the cost before you even count excursions.  We have a great time in Vegas every time. Some trips better than others, but never would I constantly bitch about going and then go again.  It makes no sense, and provides no value.

And how have I done that?

Losing. Casinos generally comp 20% of a player's losses. The most valued players (which Tom certainly isn't) may see a comp value of up to 40%, though that's rare.

So if Tom gets a "free" room with a rack rate of $200, he's lost $1000 to get it. Casinos aren't charities.

kevin thinks he knows things, but he doesn't

We have the MGM affinity card which gives us a $250 credit for signing up, Pearl status, free parking, early check in, upgrades, comp or discounted rooms.  So we didn't have to lose $1,000.

We also have multiple hotel affinity cards which gives us 4 free rooms annually, free rooms based on how many points we spend, room upgrades, free breakfasts, free or preferred parking.

We also have airline affinity cards which gives us early boarding, free luggage, companion tickets plus earning mileage towards free flights.

And those cards cost money, both to apply and annual fees.

When a casino gives you something, it isn't because they like your looks. Whatever you have to do to get the MGM card, it's a certainty that it'll cost you much more than the value of whatever goodies you may get. Anybody who thinks otherwise is kidding themselves. Casinos aren't non-profit entities.

But they will indeed be very happy if you think otherwise.

And the venom continues.

Well, then, you shouldn't be so venomous.
