What should you use freeplay on?

Hello Everyone, I'm headed to LV at the end of April.   Curious what is the best way to use freeplay and slot play (mgm rewards member).  I don't have much.   $160 between both, what game gives me the best shot to maximize my freebies?

Hi Scott.  I'll venture an answer.  But first, since you asked how to 'maximize freebies', be aware that points are not earned while playing Free Play.   However, money won during Free Play is yours to cash out and/or keep playing.  Once you are playing on your own money you do earn points, which translate into your freebies account/offer/etc.

That said, what I like to do is play Free Play through on video poker.  I watch the meter to know when the total of my Free Play (they call it 'bonus points' while playing it) has been downloaded to my credits while I play.

For instance, if I have $50 in FP, at $5 a pull (for simplicity), after 10 pulls the machine has downloaded $50 to me, which will show in my credits.   My credits may reflect more if I 'win' anything during those 10 hands.   At that point I can cash out, take the $50 TITO to an ATM and have $50 cash in hand.  Of course I can also keep playing the $50 in credits which is now MY money and I will earn points during that play, since I am spending my money, not the casino's, until it is gone.

Or I can take the $50 to another machine.  Or I can buy something to eat with the $50, or I can take it home to put in the bank or pay a bill or whatever.   To maximize that possibiity, wait until the last hour/moments of your trip to play your FP if you can, if you want to walk away with the cash.  Few of us do that, quite honestly.

That's just me, how I look at Free Play.  Whatever type of slot you play, just know that points are not earned while FP is in play.

Same for me.

Yeah, I like playing my freeplay on VP as well.  Got that from Kevin Lewis some time ago, and it's a good way to get quite a bit of it back in actual cash once you run it through.

First of all, set yourself the goal of turning as much of that into actual in-your-wallet cash as possible. (I am assuming that "free play" and "slot play" are referring to the same thing: downloadable machine credits that you have to play through once before you can cash out.)

Second, resolve to NOT dump whatever winnings you manage to obtain back into the machine(s).

Third, play it all in a video poker machine, not a slot. It doesn't really matter which VP game you play, but I recommend you play a lower denomination. That will ensure that you get SOMETHING back. If you have to play some or all of it on a slot, pick the slot with the SMALLEST top jackpot(s).

As you're cycling through whatever free play you've downloaded to that particular machine, keep track of how much you've played. The machine will display a total number of credits AND accumulated winnings, which can be misleading. If you think you're close to having run it through once, hit the cash out button. Whatever remains on the display will be the credits you still have to bet before you can cash them out.

Again, it's your money and your business, but I recommend that you do NOT look at your free play as some kind of flyer you can take, run it all through the machines, maybe I'll win, ha, ha, and if I lose, who cares. That's the mentality they want you to have.

Even if you succumb to slot temptation, $160 free play is still worth $144. Think of what you could buy with that. Maybe a nice dinner for two? Or three gallons of gas?

I talked to a casino manager once and he told me that the casino recovered NINETY-FIVE PERCENT of all the free play it gave out every month, because people would just keep stuffing it back into the machines until it was gone. I resolved to never be one of those people.
