whats the best vp

Hi everybody
I have recently joined the Forum me and my hubbie visit LV twice a year from England [long flight] on our last visit my hubbie has got into vp what advice can you give him for the best type of machine.
I read all the abreviations on the forum and don't always understand them, also is there any software to put onto my computer so we can practice ready for our next trip in October.
miotti; This my suggestion. Others will differ and probably reply.
Go to LVA front page and click on "LVA Store" Upper left corner. Click on video poker and purchase these two items. 1) Video strategy cards (suggest 8/5 bonus and jacks or better). 2)Under video poker software, suggest you purchase Ultimate Video Poker Bundle. The Bob Dancer software is a tremendous guide. We've been using it for years for practice.

Your best video poker pay schedules are hard to find on the strip. I suggest downtown or local casinos such as MSS, Orleans, Sam's Town, Suncoast, South Point and some of the Stations Casinos.

We are looking forward to our trip in October we are on a guided tour of the parks for 16 days and then on to LV for 11 days just to make the most of our 10 hour flight.
Now we are retired we make the most of it and we just love America and the people.
If you are an Apple user, you can download the Winpoker App---lets you pick most any VP game you choose. It has a warning setting which shows you any mistake you make. You will learn very quickly and before you know it, you will be playing at a 95 percent-plus accuracy rate. Costs $10 I think. On the "long ride" you will get in a lot of practice! HAve a great trip!

PS: I think most people start with Jacks Or Better. We have come to play nothing but Double Bonus now, but that is just a personal choice.

Welcome and hope you enjoy the trip. It would be helpful to know where you will be staying while in Las Vegas and also some idea about the amount you are comfortable gambling. This could either be say a daily amount or in the case of VP what denomination machines (they come in denominations from as low as 1 cent all the way up to $100!). With that it might give us an idea of what the best machines would be in your area and hence some suggestions.

We will be staying at the Paris Hotel as we have comped rooms there, we play 25c or $1 machines and spend about $100 to $200 per day more if we have any wins.
I must admit my hubbie plays VP more than me i'm a bit wreckless and play the 1c Cleopatra or keno 25c, and then up the stakes with 5 times $1 machine or wheel of fortune when I get bored with VP.
We find the machines in Paris a bit tight so we move around a bit we do most of the hotels even off strip we go to Silverton,Sams Town , Green Valley and New Orleans.

Thanks for the info I will check out the site, have you noticed since they have opened the Chateau Nightclub at Paris how noisey it is when we get back to our room at night all we hear is dump dump music we normaly don't get to bed till between 12 - 1am but the noise seems to carry on till 4am I must be getting old !!!! as it seems to me that since we have been holidaying in Vegas since 1998 the Hotels seem to have such loud music everywhere so it seems it must be something to do with my age

Well welcome to the group, miotti! For going about learning Video Poker, I'd say that the first game that should be learned is specifically called "Jacks Or Better" -- specifically the one that has the pay schedule of 9 For 1 for the Full House and 6 For 1 for the Flush. But don't let this 9 and 6 pay schedule fool you. You may find other Jacks or Better variant games like Double Bonus or Double Double Bonus Poker where the 9 and 6 pay schedule can be BAD (too low returning and too volatile).

There is a Video Poker training computer program that you can now download onto your computer for Free. It's called "Frugal Video Poker" by Jim Wolf and Jean Scott (who's also known as "The Queen Of Comps"). To get it, go to: https://www.wolfvideopoker.com/FVP.htm. The game's programmer, Jim Wolf hopes that people might buy other of his newer products (but you're not forced to).

And another place online where you can practice and it will tell you if you're making playing strategy errors is on the Wizard Of Odds website at: https://wizardofodds.com/play/video-poker/. It deals with 9/6 Jacks Or Better Video Poker.

Another good source for written Video Poker information is the American Casino Guide website which is at: https://www.americancasinoguide.com and then from there, go to their Video Poker link. And check out the website's Gambling Podcasts link for all of the Video Poker stuff. And the actual American Casino Guide Book (get the 2013 Edition), has some very decent coupons as well where you can recoup most if not all or even more than the purchase price.

And as for Video Poker machine locations not only around Las Vegas but around the United States and Canada as well, besides the https://www.vpfree2.com website that was mentioned earlier, there is another website (that you have to get a paid subscription to) that has good information as well. That's at: https://www.vpinsider.com.

I'd also recommend Video Poker books by Dan Paymar (at: https://www.optimumplay.com). And he also has (I believe) a demonstration version of his Video Poker game (which is called Optimum Video Poker) that you can download. And while at this website, check out and maybe print out his FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) link!

And another important thing to do when learning this game is to make sure that you always keep in mind the exact order of every Straight (and Straight [Or Royal} Flush) possible (that's: A-2-3-4-5; 2-3-4-5-6; 3-4-5-6-7; 4-5-6-7-8; 5-6-7-8-9; 6-7-8-9-10; 7-8-9-10-J; 8-9-10-J-Q; 9-10-J-Q-K and 10-J-Q-K-A).
