WSOP newbie questions

I see where they posted the schedules for the WSOP to start May 27, 2014. I talked with my wife and she is good with me taking one of my 2 yearly Vegas trips then, so I started looking at my options today.
Just so you know what my goals are;
I am a craps player who started dabbling in poker two years ago. I have no disillusions of winning the main event and of course cannot afford the $10,000 main event buy in, so......
My goals are to go to Las Vegas during the first week of the tournament and play in as many WSOP satellite tournaments as possible and see what happens.
Question #1 Does anyone have any advice as to what casinos have the best satellite tournaments to enter? or any other advice?
I have heard horror stories of how busy the Rio is during that week so that's out. I try very hard to patronize Boyde properties as they have always taken good care of me. It looks like the Orleans Casino is fairly close to the Rio on a map and way cheaper. I looked up and there seems to be decent review on these boards about the Orleans.
Question #2 logistically, does it make sense to stay at the Orleans and drive to the Rio to stay away from the crowd and possibly save enough to enter one more tourney? Does anyone have anything to say about the Orleans?
I would be cool with "any' WSOP tournament advice....books to buy, videos to watch, etc.

Thanks weggie
weggie: Qrleans is a very nice Boyd property. I don't play poker, and I have never been to the Rio during WSOP. BUT, I would think that RIO parking would be a nightmare. Consider staying at the GOLD COAST, also a Boyd property, and walk across the street to the RIO. If you need to go to another casino to play in a satellite tournament then you can drive there.
You can catch a free shuttle bus from the Orleans to the Gold Coast and then a quick walk across the street to the Rio.

From what I understand, the rooms at the Orleans are better than those at the Gold Coast.
The daily tournies at the rio during the wsop get lots of entries and have great structures with good paydays. I prefer that rather than playing satellites. Last year the 235 dollar daily I played had over 1500 players.

I echo what WendyW says about the daily tournies at the Rio. If you get enough breaks in the daily tournies, you could parlay the winnings into a WSOP bracelet event entry fee. I played in the WSOP Main Event in 2012. Had a sponsor for the 10K entry fee. You could play in a smaller satellite event at the Rio to gain entry into a bracelet event as well if that is your thing.

You could stay at the Gold Coast and simply walk across the street to the Rio and go through the main lobby to the back area where the tournament lobby is. At least it would be an air conditioned journey compared to parking in the back lot and walking to the WSOP entrance in 120 degree Vegas heat!

There are numerous books on poker but I would recommend first reading "Kill Phill", then "KIll Everyone". That is if you are well grounded in poker theory and the math at this point.

Good luck on your journey! Fred
The parking isn't bad. The WSOP is set up in the convention area so you drive around the back of the property and there is a huge open lot. There might be a bit of a walk but the alternative is to walk about 3/4 of a mile from the garage or the shuttle drop off point.

I am a loyal Boyd patron as well but it's worth checking rates at the Rio. I've managed to get a room for as low as $39 mid week while the tournament is running. That is probably discounted as I used to get free nights anytime at the Rio.

The daily tournies are a better option than sats. The $235 entry normally had a first place of over 50k. I only had time to play in one last year but finished high enough to cash for around 1400 and there were still a lot of people. The structure has been very good but I haven't looked at anything this year.
I also wouldn't mind putting in a little cash game poker time. Does anyone have any comments on the Orleans poker room?

Thanks weggie
