You know you Have been betting Sports to much when

I have been working and developing betting strategies for NFL Games for a couple of years now. I do it mainly because of the math involved and it gives me something to do in my spare time. By all means I am a novice compared to others I know that have spent years at handicapping. A long story short I do have an advantage over s better that is going by emotion or looking for anomalies in the lines and that is when it happened.

At lunch today, my friend boasted that he had tried to make a bet with another friend that Seattle would beat Chicago and that he would make it even (No Points). The other person did not accept the bet, but this did allow a lot of banter back and forth between us. This is when he said he would make the bet with me. Holy C__p! Are you kidding me. Now these guys know that I am heavy into sports capping, but he still wanted to make the bet. Folks, this is pure emotion betting. Chicago is a 10 point favorite and playing at home and this is exactly what any good sports better is looking for. I was in shock, but he is my friend so we ended on he or I would buy lunch depending on the outcome of the game. The initial wager was for cash and a fair amount and I so wanted to make the bet, but that is how you end friendships.

The point is not whether Seattle or Chicago wins the game, but what are the probabilities that a given team will win and what the spread would be to make the game even. The bottom line is when you find something like this you should bet the heck out of it, but I could not. If I could find this in Vegas. I would be making this post from there instead of Dallas. Man these do not come along everyday and I could not bet it.

I hope I find a spread like this in Vegas for the upcoming League Championship games !!!!

Cheers,
You do realize that you can walk into any sports book, in any casino,
and make bets without points? For example, I can place a bet on chicago
to win and not give the casino any points. All Chicago has to do is win
and points are not taken into account. It's called betting the money line.
Google it and read up on it.
Yes, I do understand that you can bet with out points , but for even money. Pick the casino of choice and check out the money line.

Not a bet that I would really want to make on this game. I would most likely to bet the over/under.

Cheers,
When you bet the money line it is not even money.

Most professional handicappers that I've heard have said that there's more money to be made betting the moneyline on the underdogs.

Speaking of sports betting....I regularly listen to a podcast called "Behind the Bets" that goes into a lot of detail on sports betting strategies and handicapping. Pretty interesting to your novice sports betting degen like me....
Hey People,

For sports betting, Billy Walters is supposed to be on 60 Minutes tonight. He was one of the subjects (if I remember correctly) of the HP book Gambling Wizards by Richard Munchkin, so check into it if you're interested!

So did you folks catch the Billy Walters piece. It was pretty interesting. I like the part about Wall Street and how the biggest hustlers that he had met wore suits and ties. I do not disagree.

Cheers,
nthumphrey. Please educate yourself on betting the money-line. You are missing out on some good chances to profit. Just take a few minutes to learn and you may never bet a point spread again. Over/under is my second favorite bet because I don't have to care about who wins and emotions don't factor in. I also will never place a bet on any team I like. This also keeps the emotions out of the mix. I will frequently place bets on teams in the division of my favorite team. This is because I am more familiar with them because I see them play more often than a non-divisional foe. Just a few thoughts.
Does anybody know what the current money line is on the Packers. I am headed to Vegas to watch them win and plan to bet both the ML and the bet givng up the 2.5 points
The current money line at most Las Vegas casinos is Green Bay -140 / Pittsburgh +120. You can view sportbetting point spreads and money lines at vegasinsider.com.
