Tunica Craziness?

I read the recent issue of Casino Player magazine. In the reader questions section, someone said that they had been barred from blackjack for playing either $25 or $50 per hand, while losing $400. They were taken to a back room, told they were a card counter, photographed, and had the information sent to all casinos. The reader questioned this lunacy. Henry Tamburin was asked by the magazine to reply. He said that there is one specific casino in Tunica that does this, but he didn't name it. Does anybody here know which one it is? I'd like to stay away from any casino that bars you for simply doubling your bet from time to time while losing.

Thank you.

This information is too late for the person that this happened to, but for anyone who finds himself or herself in a similar position you should refuse to be taken off the casino floor. NEVER go willingly to any area that is not in clear public view.

You should insist that any conversations that they need to have with you take place in a public area. You should attempt to leave the casino, if you are blocked from leaving make it clear that you want to leave to anyone who is attempting to block your exit.

Always remember that card counting is NOT ILLEGAL and no casino can detain you for that.

If this has happened to you in the past or ever happens to you in the future you should contact an attorney.

For those in Las Vegas Bob Nersesian would be the right attorney to contact.

And if in Mississippi use: Robert B. McDuff of Jackson, MS or A. Randall Harris of Madison, MS. They have sued the Hollywood and the Tunica Sheriff's Dept before and won.

Thanks for adding the additional lawyers for players on the east coast that might run into an overzealous security guards, that are not only poorly trained but often use unlawful actions against law abiding casino patrons.

Do you know any of the details of the cases that you mention?

There is a real doozy going on right now here in Las Vegas as we speak. A "SLOT" player was not only backed room for over 3 hours and then released but the following morning Las Vegas metro police showed up at his door because he told a gaming agent he would not meet the agent at around midnight at the Gaming Boards Headquarters. He opted to contact an attorney in the morning and then meet with the agent. I guess that was not good enough for the casino and gaming agent. Therefore, they used the Police Dept to drag him in.

I am not a lawyer but this sounds like first he was held against his will, then released and then picked up at his home as if he is some sort of dangerous criminal. Why because he did not want to venture down to Washington and Las Vegas Blvd at midnight. Anyone that knows that area would not dare to go there at that hour unarmed.

Maybe the player that this happened to, whom I know visits this message board will add the exact version of what happened.

I believe I have said about as much as I should. I wish the player well in their attempt to right the wrong that was administered during another Casino Security Guard SNAFU.

Hollywood casino in Tunica 86'd a BJ player (who was losing not winning) for counting cards and escorted him to the cage where the cage demanded his ID before cashing his chips, he refused to give it to them so they called the Sheriff's dept. He waited since he wanted his money. The deputy asked for his ID and he handed it to the officer, who then handed it to the cage so they could make a copy. Hollywood used the DL info and sent flyers to the other casinos in town. He hired the above attorneys and filed suit, the casino and the Sheriff's dept paid an out of court settlement. The deputy was wrong for giving the DL to the casino.
Thanks for adding the details to this story. I really liked how it turned out. Once again the casinos use the local police dept to do their illegal work. I bet the next time they are called to the scene a complete different outcome will take place.

The only way to get the casino attention is hitting them in their pockets.

Sorry Joe but it will be the same here Tunica county gets 80% of it's revenue from the casinos. Hollywood casino donated the amount of the Sheriff's Dept settlement to the county's general fund. It cost the county nothing and Hollywood casino has not changed it's policy.
