funding an online poker account

My boyfriend recently started playing online poker at Full Tilt Poker and is now interested in playing for cash on the website. However, when he tried to put funds into his account with a pre-paid Visa card, the site said that cash transactions weren't allowed in this region (southern California).

Is there any (legal) way to add money to an internet poker account? I'm sure others have done it before and would appreciate any feedback.

I am sure if he contacts customer support for the site he is interested in, they will be glad to help him figure out how to give them his money.
