The Hammah challenge...

Just wanted to give everyone an update. Hadnt really played that much since my last post ..that was until I got sick a couple of weeks ago.. then I got the stomach flu this week. been playing a lot this week..lol..

stayed a long time between 60 and 70 bucks... but finally broke through last night with a nice couple of sessions.. I am currently at ...

$81...

next stop $100!.. I am very close to getting another $10 bonus from stars too.. so I am pretty close...

Officially over $100!

after I got my $10 bonus I felt comfortable playing one table of 2c 5c while keeping the other table 1c 2c. I dont like playing more than 2 at a time since this allows me to watch tv, talk in the corral etc...

I ended my session last night at $107 and change.. will play 1 and 1 for a while then switch over to both tables at 2c 5c maybe when I get to $200...

That's awesome! I say you should celebrate.

Eat, drink and be merry. (Not necessarily in that order.)

Well after hitting my peak of $165 about a week ago I have been on the sickest negative run ever online. This is the reason I quit originally.. Just tonight after having my Aces and sets cracked over and over again I have finally given up on 2c 5c for the time being. I honestly dont know how to win online never have and never will. How can you when this happens in one night! Each one of these pots is for at least one buy in and some for a little more. Note I have only hit a set when I have been cracked and flushed when I am housed up and otherwise missing every draw.. Also I never slowplay online so each time I bet pot and that ranged from say 30-50 cents to 1.5 when I was multiway

Aces cracked on turn after flop of 6 high by 99 when they hit set on turn...

KK all in pre against AK he hits nut flush on turn

set of 9s on flop all in on turn when they river set of Jacks.

QQ vs AA when I was short

trip Kings with J kicker losing to full house when 88s hits it on turn.. I bet pot on flop..

and finally when I wanted to just give up for good. I call a small raise in 4 way pot with 78 spades. Flop flush draw and call 75 cents .. hit flush on turn. open shove for 1.5 x pot get called by AJ on A 10 J x board and of course he hits J on river.

yep folks I managed to lose a whopping 20 bucks tonight getting it in good except once. Oh and yet again I was good to the tune of 75% or more. I should have over $225 in my account. yet I am going back to 1c 2c for a while as its seems that is the ONLY stakes I can win online.

OH AND TO FINISH OUT THE PITTY PARTY. THE VERY FIRST THING I DID ON MY VACATION IN HAWAII WAS TO SEE AKAKKA FALLS. THERE ARE SOME STAIRS THERE BUT WITH MY NEW KNEE I WENT ALONG. REALLY FUCKED IT UP. PROBABLY NOW BACK TO WHAT IT WAS LIKE BEFORE MY SURGERY AND WONT BE ABLE TO DO ANYTHING LIKE STAND OR WALK OR EXCERSISE. IN OTHERWORDS MY LIFE WILL SUCK FOREVER. KIND OF HARD TO SOCIALIZE WHEN YOU CANT STAND .. CAN MEET ANYONE SO I AM DESTINED TO JUST SIT AT HOME WATCHING TV AND PLAY FUCKING 1C 2C FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE.

Sorry about your knee. I'm sure it must feel like the universe is out to get you this week.

It sounds like your downswing was only 4 buyins though. Seems pretty small to me. That probably happens to me once every 2-3 weeks, and I'm up 250 buyins this year.

You are much better than the players in your games. Moving down isn't something to feel bad about. It's just good poker management and an important part of the Hammah challenge. If it were easy, it wouldn't be worth doing.

Yesterday was 5 buy in cuz I buy in for 4. But a couple of those pots were over 100 bbs each as I had built my stack up. This was on top of the neg 6 or 7 buying I have lost throughout the week. I haven't been playing crazy at all but these players float every flop and my value bets are getting run down. Since I still have 15 bucks till I get down to 100 I am going to try another tactic that worked very well when I first started. By in short and play uber tight uber aggressive. Like what Todd does but with a twist ak on flop good so eve if I get called I will just represent a monster. Since I am so short then this should get my hand match ups better. And I can still play for the same buy in I would be doing at penny two penny. So this week I am down a total of 11 buy ins. If I lose this last 15 bucks then I will move down until I get my next award in 500 fops where I will get another 25 bucks. Then I will try 2c 5 c as a short stacker

One thing I did notice is that you said that you pot every flop. I float a lot of people that always pot it, because it makes it very hard for them to play their hands out of position. Either they are committing to stacking off or putting a lot of money in the pot and have to give it up.

A different way to beat players that call too much is to make 2/3 pot bets and to often check good hands that you want to get to showdown. Smaller bets keep your opponent's hand range wider (so you get more value), and also keep the pot small enough that you will be able to get away from your hand if villain shows a lot of aggression. The key to this strategy is that by knowing when to fold you can deny your opponent the implied odds he needs to make his calls profitable. And it doesn't preclude you from shoveling money in when you have a monster.

I think playing short is a good way to try to get over a stretch that hasn't gone too well. Also, a smaller pot style might be something to think about in the future.

I was generalizing to say that I wasnt slowplaying. The texture of the flop helps me determine how much I bet. On my trip kings hand I actually lead out about a little less than half pot hoping to get some action. on my aces hand I felt he had an overpair so with the small board I bet pot.

at the 2c 5c it seemed I got floated when I bet half pot on flop or less. Not as much with a pot or 2/3rd bet. So I started cbetting less with a hand that had showdown value .. like a pair but smaller than tp on board . I would bet hands I had complete air but raised pre to just steal and when I had an overpair or big draw..

In my stretch I just rarely flopped anything other than a draw or overs and you saw when I hit something big I got outdrawn 100% last night. It is so sick. take a look at my stats on PTR and you will see just how bad I have run over the last week. something like 4k in hands too .. not too short but certainly enough that it shouldnt have happened..

short stacking for a bit I think will be good. BTW when I started the bad run I decided to try follow the donkey and purchased a subscription from PTR so I could get the "best table" .. there you can see the stats of the other players. So my run is magnified by the fact that I was at bad player tables the whole time. Only once in the last few days did I get a donkey to bluff off their chips to me. So where the fuck are they?

Before I responded to your post, I looked at my play this year. About 119k hands in, I dropped 20 buyins in 10k hands, but now after 461k hands, it's just a tiny little crevice on a mountain of winnings. And I know my biggest downswings are likely ahead of me. Se la poquer.

The long run is a long way.

Thanks. Btw how many tables do you play at a time? I feel comfortable with 3 max. Then I think my play really falls off and I can't do anything other than play and I like to itch tv or chat, etc... That said as a short stacker I can play more tables as the decisions are quicker...
