Longtime Poker /Lurker/ Now I want to play

I have been watching Texas Holdem since Phil Helmuth won his first million out of college.
I have played for fun on line at all the sites . I go to Vegas once a year . I have aquestion for anybody that can take the time.

I have a hearing loss that shies me away from the live action at the casinos. The question is what particular table and game can I buy in and possibly win money and pull out if it gets to challenging. I am not really sure I can sit for 2-3 hours at a time.

I am not sure if I would get shot for sitting at a table and walking out with money won at the table while there are still players still in. Is there a game that allows this.

For somebody that watches all these tourneys over the year you would think I know more LOL

My guess is the Sit N Go is probaly what I am looking for.

Thanks for time.

>>>>1-1 or 1-2 NLHE. Maybe 3/6 LHE. At these stakes no one will care if you get up and leave right away. If you feel you don't have an edge on the players, the game is not good, or for whatever reason just get up, rack your chips and leave.<<<<<

I will say that if you get a reputation as a hit and run artist, you'll probably not be welcome back to play in the same game. This shouldn't be aconcern for you since you only go to Vegas once a year and probably never see these players again.<<<<

>>>>This is how I started. Local casino used to run single table sng's then I gravitated toward the cash games. Cash games can be intimidating to the novice. Give it a try, if you don't feel comfortable just leave.<<<<

1. It's your money. Get up with it whenever the heck you want and don't let anyone tell you differently.

2. You might be confusing cash games and tournaments a bit. For a cash game you sit down and buy chips with a cash equivalent. They can be traded back in for cash at any time. See 1 above. For a tournament such as a sit and go, you pay money and they give you chips with NO CASH Value. The cash is then distributed among the winners at the end of the tournament (minus a hefty chunk the casino keeps). Although technically you can get up and leave in the middle of a sit and go, you chips must remain on the table and you won't receive any compensation. In other words play until they are either all gone or you have them all.
Thanks a lot . Got the message . So it appears that the sit n gos are not for me unless I want to hang around .
I'll do the cash buy in and play until my time has come to leave.

Have you seen anybody take a rash of dirty looks for getting up and walking out with a chunk of money?

If it bothers you to hit and run (and it shouldn't), just act like your cell phone just went off and you have to go. Apologize if you must, but just leave. As was mentioned, for your one trip per year, you won't be remembered.

Good luck!

I give people dirty looks when I have to wait behind them at the ATM while they withdraw money and they don't give me any. Does that mean they are doing anything wrong?
I play live poker all the time.. and if you play with the same folks all the time, hitting and running is not a good idea. That said if you go to vegas once a year and you win a nice pot and feel uncomfortable playing with that amount in front of you then get up and leave. Most times you will have to leave the game for 30 min before you can come back but who cares..

You'll get dirty looks any time you walk away with (what used to be) other people's money. In poker, dirty looks are usually a good thing. You're playing to make money (and hopefully have fun in the process), so don't worry about dirty looks. Most of the "advice" you'll get from other players is close to worthless anyway. They're either lying or just playing to do what looks like the right thing, rather than what is actually the proper play.

So, you probably will upset some people when you win their money, but that's sort of the idea, isn't it? Bottom line is you leave whenever you want. It's not as though the game is going to end when you leave. There are plenty more people that will fill your seat when you decide to stand up.
Another note to this thread.. Last night I won a very very big pot.. over 400bbs.. Now rather than sit there and take the chance to get a huge cooler.. I played very tight and then left after about an hour.. I play with these folks all the time and so I did stay for a little while.. That said I didnt feel comfortable playing with that big a stack and another player having me covered.. So I got up.

I play live all the time. More than on line usually. And no one gets upset if you get up and leave with money. Occaisinally you may make a smug comment, but thats about it. Even after big winners leave, there is rarely ever a comment made. Like mentioned above, there's always another player to take your place. If fact, depending on your style of play, they may be happy you're leaving. I'd rather have a player that's loose, or drunk, and throwing chips around, rather than a tight player getting lucky, or a good player on a rush.

Don't give it a second thought...
