Most overrated play at the table

If you haven't already done so, I strongly suggest you read the Miller/Sklansky/Malmuth book Small Stakes Hold 'em published by 2+2, the seminal book for the type of game that you describe.

+1 It teaches many advanced plays for easily beatable games. For instance, when it's more profitable to raise those weak draws than fold or call.

I cut my teach on LHE too.

LOL. I think it's pretty clear by now that most of you don't play limit. The c-bet in LHE is a borderline impotent move that does nothing but help build a pot for the guy or gal who is going to win it at showdown.

This is true live at low and mid limits, but it isn't true online and it isn't true at high limits live. People play limit holdem so very badly at low limits live that it is not uncommon to see 6 people or more in the pot for a raised flop. Obv., as I said in my post, it is easier for many people to defend their range than fewer.

Tend to agree with both of these. As I've posted before, live LHE up to 5/10 is no foldem holdem. I played in a 5/10 game on a cruise a few years ago where one chick truly thought that a naked backdoor flush draw was a legitimate hand to chase.

Hammah, I like the c/r play on the flop and use it often, especially on drawey boards.

Thanks for the HU on the SSHE book too, wags.

Super Mario doesn't allow it.

I own SSHE and know it pretty well. It has been indispensible to my ongoing success at 4/8 and, increasingly, 8/16.

But I am also one who believes that some the conditions described in SSHE, which was written in 2004, have changed. Raising weak draws in the limit games I play in is a move that will usually blow up in your face at showdown and is downright spewy. YMMV.

Well, like all poker tools, you have to know when to apply it. Advanced plays often require more judgement than ABC plays, almost by definition.
