RIP Kill Phil Poker Message Board

Looks like everyone abandoned you.
There are better sites. The people who post on twoplustwo are a lot more knowledgeable about poker and the discussions are more varied and interesting. YMMV.

Thanks
Even Phil himself is wearing Aria gear.. RIP

This board may be deader then Elvis, so you have little choice but to go elsewhere if you want to
discuss poker. But let me remind everyone the posts in this board go back several years and are
still worth reading if you want to improve your game. The problem with larger sites like 2p2 is they
are very hive-mind oriented and any thinking outside of the ABC box is frowned upon and sometimes
unjustly ridiculed.

This board was born out of a book that taught a completely different approach to tournament poker
and because of that attracted many free thinking individuals over the years and the ideas exchanged
and debated in these old posts are like gold and well worth your time to go over if your the type that
wants to go beyond grinding out 1BB/100 or folding into the money.

While there might not be much posting here, I think most of the old KFC participants still actively lurk here.
I hope we can still keep a 'pulse' here, I miss the anecdotes from Nighthawk, Hammah, PokerWayne, tss777....
Hard to give a poker anecdote when I've played poker maybe once a month . Our gubernment has really made things pretty tough in the our house at the moment as I try to take care of my kids and terminally ill wife. Hopefully someday poker will return and interest will return in divergent opinions on how to play the game. As dog alludes, I believe you can learn a lot more from reading some contrarian opinions and forcing yourself to think through the situation. Even if you don't agree with the opinion, understanding how other players might be thinking and why can only help your game.
I'm up $1k live at 1-2 in three day-trips to Foxwoods. This is the most I've ever played live.

My general notes are:

1. People are very bad, much worse than online.

2. Lots of limping weak ranges. Raising limpers in position and firing equity + dry flops is very profitable.

3. Fold to raises. This includes 3-bets, flop raises, whatever. Raises are very, very strong.

4. I thought it would be easier to get stacks. I haven't gotten a ton of stacks. I attribute it to two reasons. a. Raises are very strong, other people know that, so they are often capable of big folds. b. I'm raising too big against bad players. I tend to raise to a size where I could be bluffing. When I have someone crushed, I should raise to more exploitable (smaller) sizes. Also, their ranges are wider than online, so the smaller sizing gets equity from extra part of their range.

5. Because of 4a above, I think semi-bluffing in spots is very profitable, and I probably don't do it enough.
I think you've hit on the big difference in live v online....

I will be in Vegas this Sat - Wed.
