Well written petition against govt theft of freedom

As a woman I tend to take a bit of a different approach. I have heard congressional testimony that the percentage of online gamblers that become addicted is roughly equal to any other activity that humans tend to get adicted (drinking, shopping, etc..). These activities are not illegal and with shopping the government doesnt even regulate the banks. Furthermore, the banks arent even supposed to keep an eye on someone who has an apparent shopping problem ..unlike drinking or gambling.... Sure you cant shop someone then get in a car and kill someone so I get that...

It continue to amazes me that certain political figures yell at the top of their lungs to keep the government out of way.. yet these same folks are perfectly happy putting the govt in two very specific areas, my body and my poker... Why?

Simple: Its their morality..

This has nothing to do with regulating banks or trying to keep people from pissing away their money and has everything to do with a specific agenda for a number of power brokers in Washington.. They believe gambling is BAD just like they believe Abortion is baby killing... to hell with what others think as they KNOW better..
Its too bad we cant really go after this on a 1st and 4th amendment rights issue because I do feel that this is freedom of expression and that the government is getting a bit too close in my house..

An analogy is this.. For many years you couldnt vote until 21.. it was thought that your brain had been developed enough to act mature to be a full citizen of the United States. Then many boys under 21 were getting killed in vietnam and the 26th amendment was passed and now you could vote at 18..

But you still cant drink in most states, cant play poker in vegas , cant do a lot of things.. why? If you are an adult and can vote then how can they still prevent you from other things??

I always wanted to see someone denied entry to a poker room or casino and try to have the 26th amendment expanded based on age descrimination.. I see online gambling in the same sort of way.. the basic theory is this..

If I am an adult and wish to partake in an activity that will harm me but no one else (except for a spouse and potentially financially children).. then how can the government subscribe to limit this activity?

Most laws are based on the innocent 3rd party rule whereas an activity may and could be regulated when someone completely unrelated may be harmed by it. IE.. drunk driving.. who is the innocent 3rd party I am harming by gambling online? Sure I can go broke but that is no different than shopping and therefore that is not a high enough standard to differenciate that activity..

I agree...written fer shit.

Donk command of the English language, but I did like this point:

"Where are the wall street [and mortgage bankers lke Mozillo of Countrywide] bankers that helped to destroy our economy? Why aren’t they being arrested?"

It was a point I brought to my Congressmen's attention in response to the article wags posted in another thread.
