Thanks to Chilcoot for pointing out Bob Dancer's take on this subject and clearing up some confusion....https://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/bob_dancer/2013/0219.cfm

.... and my apologizes for the confusing copy & paste thread title. Perhaps the better title would be the one used on the FS playing on the connection between VP and Jack in the Box: $1 Billion of Jacks (or Better) in the Box

I do have to say that even before Bob Dancer's take on this got posted, something just didn't seem to be right to me about the article and I'd say that most newspaper people get stuff like this wrong because they just don't know about how the gaming arena works.

And yes, $1 Billion played through hand after hand doesn't necessarily mean $1 Billion lost since money actually can very easily get churned over and over again due to wins (or returns of the original bet in the case of getting a Pair of Jacks or Better on that kind of game).

Let's move on then....

Wonder if she owes any taxes to IRS or State(s)
I find it amazing that no one has commented that she "stole" this money. this is going on way to often any more--people in that position taking money and blaming their problem on everything except what the real cause is. That they are greedy self absorbed people who want everything and think of no one else.

You see it every night in the news or daily paper. This is on a large scale but everyday you hear of people stealing from some kids sports group, scouts, or charity. What happened to working for what you have?? Ok done venting.

If you lived in the DC area, you hear everyday about council members and just about any other person with any kind of power in the DC govt being indicted, investigated, plea-bargaing or found guilty of some type of embezzlement or bribes or any some kind of graft, even the mayor got busted for for some things but as is the usual for DC, he's still in there. It's really, really bad downtown.

I am not sure she played VP with "stolen" money. I thought (but I am not sure) I read somewhere that she had net worth of about $40M. I guess that means if she lost $13M she would still have $27M left. Since the article headline tried to make us believe that she lost $1B the average person would think she had to have used stolen money. But since she actually only lost $13M if does not follow that she played with stolen money. God why are we still talking about this??? Let's go play some quarter VP.
This story proves that "the house always wins." If gambling was a profitable venture she would have made money instead of experiencing such a great loss.
The House does not always win! If it did I would not play VP. What the story proves is that if you play a game that returns less then 100% constantly over a long period of time the House will almost certainly win. It is a statistical probability. If you play good VP games occasionally and expertly you have a fair chance to be ahead of the House.
