Congress Passes Budget Bill, but Some in G.O.P. Balk
- New York times, April 14, 2011

It is true that nearly three years have passed since the Senate passed a budget resolution. While no one would argue that such resolutions aren't helpful and worthwhile, they're not necessary.

"A budget resolution is a policy plan that outlines the intent of Congress, but it is not an appropriations bill, or spending bill, which actually allocates money for specific purposes. In the absence of a budget resolution, appropriations bills have continued to allocate money."
- PolitiFact, May 19, 2011

Unlike the House, where the GOP's simple majority always rules, it takes a supermajority, 60 votes, for the Senate to put a budget resolution into effect.
- The Economist, February 15, 2012

Find Sen. Reid seven Republicans interested more interested in this country's fiscal health than in crashing this economy so as to defeat this President, and the Senate too will be able to pass a budget resolution.
