American Horror Story & Prohibition

It's these two series and mini series i am most looking forward to the most and here they come...

Sunday, 10.02.11

Ken Burn does what Ken Burns does best- on PBS. how our country became crazy/ How did a Nation founded on rights become so wrong?

F/X- Oct. 5th Wenesday:

from the people who brought you Nip/Tuck AND Glee (can you imagine?!???) Brad Falchik and Ryan Murphy...
Actors such as :
Frances Conroy- the Mother from 6 Feet Under (HBO)
Jessica Lange
Dylan McDermott
and True Bloods clever Denis O'Hare...such a cast!

Horror is not my favorite genre but this one seems like Modern family infused w. Dark Shadows (which I hear Johnny Depp is re-making) Dark , quirky.. right up my DVR alley. Yeay! Yay!!!

Are you with me...?
Also this Sunday on Showtime is the premiere of Homeland starring Damien Lewis (Band Of Brothers), Morena Baccarin (V) and Claire Danes in a 13 part show similiar to the Manchurian Candidate but set in the modern day Iran war.

The plot revolves around Lewis as a former prisoner of al qaeda who may or not have been turned
... OMG Showtime..wish I could afford it.
Had it for years.

My poor mis-understood Dexter

Also a new wild series on HBO w/ Laura Dern-- anyone? forgotten the name- wait!... ENLIGHTENED w/ Luke Wilson. She produced it too..

and HBO's George Harrison ; Living in the Material World- Oct 5th 9-10:30/ concludes Thursday night- or catch it On demand.

and look for ABC's RUMPLESTILTSKIN; Once upon a time
Hopefully I'll remember to watch Prohibition -- a political failure in our nation, one where the joint narrow political interests overwhelmed principles. It was definitely proof that politics makes strange bedfellows.

Watched The Mentalist last night. It was good. I like the whole bit of him rebuilding his team and also doing the detective work. There's a moment where he asks a woman what kind of lover the victim was while the woman was running a treadmill. She hits her head on the bars and flies off. It was comical. Jane says, "man down." Very good.

I'd like to see Homeland for no other reason than to watch Damien Lewis who was AWESOME in Band of Brothers (and that series was TV worth watching. I couldn't wait for the next episode). But like N'cat, I don't get Showtime. Don't get most cable channels.

Both of you will have to wait for the DVD
If you do Netflix- try HBO's "The Pacific" regarding WWll

It brought me down to tears weekly-- thought of my Big Babe-- the last episode simply blew me out of the water... real people, real photos and a follow up!!..awesome.
I'm looking forward to both programs. Burns has the rare ability to make history compelling, even when we think we already know it. I had a few teachers who could do that.

The cast for American Horror Story is impressive, but I'm more excited about the prospect of good scripts. Much like humor, American horror has fallen into the hands of posers, pretenders and hacks. I would like to see something that rises above that.
"Home Protection"- that's what they started calling the bill/act to make liquor illegal.
that there's some powerful marketing back in 1890.
So Far, so good-

Paid $5.99 to see Bridemaids in HiDef-- pretty good movie. my weekend treat of which I had no time but made some..

A Gifted Man is not for me. either is Free Agents.
I really HAVE to let some things go-- Season lll of VH1's "Tough Love" is as good as a low rent Milionaire Matchmatcher.
I'm enjoying Prohibition.
My guess: different people will see completely different lessons in it.

For me, the lesson is, even if sounds like a great idea, and something really needs to be done, and a majority of people agree, it still doesn't mean it will work.

There was and is a social problem with alcohol. It was and is costly to our society. But trying to rid ourselves of it was even worse.
Saw the first two shows. Taped tonight's. Very well done.
