Anybody know anything about Mesquite, NV??

I am thinking about spending a week there. Anybody ever spend any time in Mesquite?

I am afraid I will be saying to myself it is not Vegas and be disappointed, and go nuts with boredom, but I am trying to see something else besides Vegas in Nevada. I have Tahoe/Reno on the list as well for another trip. I read I could get to the National Parks in Utah etc. so I am still just considering it.

Thanks.

From what I've heard and read, you could spend a week in Mesquite in one day, lol.
Thanks Sue,

I knew you would tell me that. The good news is I think I pass close to the Alliante on the way lol...

If you are a golfer, you may like Mesquite. A review of Wolf Creek said it looked like Pink Floyd build a golf course on the moon and it is pretty accurate --- the most interesting course I have ever played. So good, I went back a 2nd time on another trip.

Otherwise, there are a few casinos but some may be closed now and it really is a 1st truck stop in Nevada coming from Utah.

heehee, that was my first thought too

Believe it or not.. I was there.
I have 2 cards- one from Virgin River or something close to that.

It was like a dark smaller Vacation Village-- a block building w/ a cement parking lot-- shocking to me back then.

My sister was impressed she could get green tea from the cocktail waitress-- it was a dump.
dark, dingy and that was 15 years ago
Thanks all.

I do not golf, so I am diverting to Reno/Tahoe/Incline Village and will skip it. Maybe I will visit from Vegas on a day trip one day.

As John Belushi once said, "My advice to you is to drink heavily!" Mesquite is a side trip to be taken from Vegas. The golf is good, but speaking as a golfer, two nights would be my max.

Good Luck!

I once booked a week at the Oasis(?) thru my time share exchange group. Paid about $67 for the week and left after two nites. Room was okay, there was just nothing to do.My best memory of the trip was going to Arby's and seeing four seperate signs stating that their specials were limited to 250 per person per day. Evidently, they have a problem with people taking advantage of their specials. When I asked the cashier, she said it was the closest Arby to Utah, as if that explained everything.
I have not been there since Novemeber 2005. The Casablanca was by far the best place to stay and play. They had a nice pool with a hot tub-like area, a pretty good spa, a hair salon and a fine restaurant (Katherine's). The buffet and coffee shop were very average, maybe a bit below average.

They ran some good promotions and comps were very easy to get, especially for the $1 player.

The VP was good until they started listening to some ex-Harrahs execs they hired. They downgraded the games AND doubled the coin-in requirements to earn a point. I used up all my points in the spa (well, Mrs. Don did) and the gift shop and never went back.

From what I understand, the Casablanca now has some decent VP, but all at the $.25 level.
