April 15: Cashing a Check or Writing One?

Once again a BerfERD “John Hancock” was needed on bank documents sent to the IRS. I’m not complaining too much because we do not get a refund by our own design. I follow the affirmation that I prefer not to let the government operate by using my funds and sending my money back without interest.

I am proud to be an American and understand the obligation to pay taxes but I try to avoid excess donations because I am almost as capable of unwisely spending my hard earned cash as our politicians.

All of the media hype around this time of year offering suggestions on how best to spend your refund is a little annoying when you know you are not getting a remittance from the IRS but we persevere and do our best to balance our tax budget to a zero balance. We missed by a little this year.

George,

We're getting money back this year but not nearly as much as last year! Might sound stupid but I'd rather over pay than have to pull money from our savings. One time we owed over $1300 - ouch!!! I know we don't get any interest on the extra money we paid but I kind of look at it as an extra savings acct. Almost like a nice little surprise you didn't know you was going to get! LOL!!! So yippee!! Extra money
"Cashing" a "check"??? I e-file and get my return via direct deposit, baby! :-)

Well, I did this year anyway. I'm with you Berferd. Pay as little as possible throughout the year and minimize the refund... or even owe. Nothin' wrong with that. Why give the government an interest-free loan?

Putting money in a savings account or a money market these days is next to an "interest-free" loan these days.

Writing One !
We are getting a small refund about 1,300. The sad part is huuby claims 0 single, I claim 0 married and each year we just pray we don't owe. Funny, if we were not married hubby would get 3,000 and I would get 1,500 back. Talk about a marriage penalty.
got back.
gave it right to HET..i mean CE
phooey
Mercifully, our move away from California is paying dividends including a more temperate tax environment.
Money back although modest.

Normally we cut it pretty close, but this year I had extra taken out of my check for the last couple of months, since mom passed away and I didn't know how much that was going to affect our taxes. I was still worried we were going to have to pay more, but when we got the completed forms back from our accountant, we had almost a $6k refund from federal and also a refund from state!! Very nice.
