All I know is I'm voting tomorrow.

I'm thinking that the silence following hoops2's one-word post above is less of a "Gee, he really put PJ in his place with his simple, direct response" thing, and more of a "Yeah, well, as we've long seen, that's what we should expect from someone who confuses his own bitter resentment for logic and reason" sort of thing.

Since I know that PJ was upset over the thumping his beloved Bills received on Sunday from yet another NY team I was trying to keep it simple

Cool, let's follow this line of (il)logic.

Since we have to pay the government money to get a driver's license, and

since we have to pay the government money (taxes) to buy an airplane ticket,

Why don't voter suppression fans like hoops2 just reinstitute poll taxes?

Make people pay the government money to vote! You know you want to.

Quit beating around the bush, hoops2! Show some initiative! Have the courage of your awful convictions!
chilly - you can get a 4 year non-driver photo id in NY for $9 which works to 19 cents per month. Why is it such a problem to be able to prove that you are the person that you claim to be when voting?

According to the National Conference of State Legislatures States are currently divided into 4 categories when it comes to voter identification: Strict Photo, Photo, Non-Photo and no Voter ID law.

Georgia is pretty typical of the Strict Photo States. There you can obtain a FREE voter ID:
"Georgia law provides for the issuance of a free identification card to citizens eighteen (18) and over who are registered voters. In order to be eligible for a free identification card, the voter must have no acceptable proof of identity to use when voting. These free identification cards are issued at all Customer Service Centers and are valid for ten (10) years."

Marc, go away. This is LVA. There's no place for practical reality.

Excellent point!

Impose a poll tax, but make it affordable!

Maybe the state could even offer financing for the taxes, pay for the right to vote in easy monthly payments.

You know you wanna....
I thank Marc for his research proving that voter id requirements are not a hardship

1) To the extent that states will provide a free photo id to any registered voter (like in Georgia) I fully support it. I do take issue to your reference to that practice as being "typical". I believe Georgia is the only state that issues free ID's. Correct me if I am wrong. Indiana, for example, also requires state photo ID and if you dont pay to get one then you dont get to vote. Period. And that is true of the new bills being sent out this year. They are not coupled with free ID clauses and have already been scored to disenfranchise millions of voters nationwide.

2) As for early voting....Early Voting was a Republican idea a few years ago because they believed it would benefit their party more so than Dems. In 2008 the Obama camapaign utilized early voting as a tool to get out their vote and the percentage of early voters actually turned out to be the oppositte of what Republicans had hoped. Now the GOP wants to kill it. Go figure.

3) In Maine yesterday the voters overturned the new Republican Governor's law that prohibited voter registration on voting day. Guess which party benefits the most from that practice?

You are wrong PJ and this illustrates why so few of us seek to continue to debate on here. It took me less than a minute to go to the Indiana State site for election voting requirements:
https://www.in.gov/sos/elections/2625.htm
Where you can find this statement:
"Obtaining a Photo ID
If you do not possess an ID that is acceptable for voting purposes, Public Law 109-2005 requires the BMV to issue an Indiana State ID Card for free."
