Cicadas!

They started popping up here a couple days ago. Ugh.

Anyone else?

Nope. they don't bother NYC-- too much concrete and steel

We have some Canadian Geese stopping by the Narrows of late
I don't get those in my Massachusetts backyard.

Just Hungry Bears.

I haven’t noticed any around here yet but they just may have drowned or their little music maker thingies are too moist to chirp.

I think they are supposed to have cycles when they are more abundant. I remember one year back in the late 1980s when they were everywhere around here but Cincinnati had them in Biblical proportions. They were so bad they had to close the zoo. I had to drive to Cincy a couple of times a week and there were times on I-71 East of town that they were so thick traffic came to a halt. There was never enough washer fluid in the windshield squirt reservoir to clean off that nasty bug juice.

Whenever these ugly critters pop up I am somehow reminded of the sci-fi flick “Quatermass and the Pitt” (US title “Five Million Years To Earth”) which was a UK release about giant locust like creatures from Mars found in what was thought to be an unexploded German bomb from WWII but turned out to be a space ship.

We get them during the summer in LAs Vegas. They sound like electric lines with water on them ...........none as of yet, first we need the heat.
Started appearing in Nashville a couple of weeks ago. Had cold weather last week which delayed them somewhat. So far I've seen maybe a dozen at my house (and I have several hundred trees). Was driving down the interstate last night and they were all over for about a mile...almost looked like snow blowing thru the air.
Even when I'm inside my house, with the doors and windows all shut, they're still loud.

GzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZzzzzzz...

I mowed the lawn yesterday, pushing the mower with one hand and swatting the beady-eyed little bastards away with the other. They are EVERYWHERE.
