I enjoyed reading Judge Silberman's decision today (well, okay, portions lol) from the DC Court of Appeals upholding the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act championed by President Obama.

Judge Silberman, who was appointed to the bench by President Reagan, wrote for the majority in finding it constitutional to require Americans to buy healthcare insurance coverage by early 2014 or face a penalty.

As he wrote for the Court:

The right to be free from federal regulation is not absolute, and yields to the imperative that Congress be free to forge national solutions to national problems, no matter how local -- or seemingly passive -- their individual origins.

Here is a nice picture of when President George W. Bush presented Judge Silberman with the Presidential Medal of Freedom a few years ago.

I think from his smile that must have been a proud day for him.
