Describe a memorable Musical Moment

Maybe Reba has changed over the years. Maybe her rudeness was because she was brand new in the industry, having achieved overnight fame, and it went to her head.

George and Nancy Jones ARE very nice. I've met them a couple of times. Most notably, in front of the Fashion Show Mall, where they had handprints in the sidewalk. George was there, along with Vince Gill and Conway Twitty. All 3 were performing at Bally's that night. Surprisingly, very few fans showed up for the handprint ceremony, even tho it was publicized on the radio. My friend and I chatted with George, and I got to kiss him, lol. He's always been my favorite singer. The other time I met him was when he was signing copies of his tape at Wal-Mart near my home in Illinois.
1992. Was a contestant on a game show called Top Card on the old Nashville Network. The game was a combination of music trivia and Blackjack (of all things!). If you beat the others to the buzzer, and came up with the correct answer, you'd get a card. You wanted to hit 21 on the head, of course, or get as close to the number without busting - - forcing your opponents to either blow a question, or bust.

I win the "first day", and am back as defending champ for "day two" - - although all of this is happening on a single taping day.

I win round one on the second day, and am back for the championship round. I blow a question which had to do with a line from American Pie - - "A coat he borrowed from James Dean". I knew the answer, but somehow "Jimmy" Dean popped out of my mouth instead of James.

Judge played hardball, and called it incorrect. I went on to lose. Never did like that song to begin with!

2010. We're planning a trip out to Yellowstone and will spend some time in Cody, WY on the way in. Looking at stuff to do in Cody, I see something called "Dan Miller's Cowboy Music Revue". Now the host of Top Card back in the day was a guy named Dan Miller, who I know had played in a band once-upon-a-time prior to his days of doing different things on TV.

Go to the site, and sure enough, same guy. We decide to see this over the famous Cody Rodeo!

The Revue is classic old school Western. Two others in the band, along with his daughter on a couple numbers, plus he does some "campfire poetry" if you will.

End of the show - - he says something like - - "Here's a little poem I'd like to share with you written by a good friend of mine who just passed away last week - - Jimmy Dean."

OMG. The last time I saw this guy, Jimmy Dean ends my run on his gameshow, and now here he is 18 years late bringing up Jimmy Dean again. Odds on that??

After the show, we had a nice chat with he and the band. Asked him why he kept haunting me with Jimmy Dean!! We all had a good laugh.

This reminds me something my best high school friend said to me at our recent class reunion, concerning a gal who was (and still is) one of the in crowd:

"When she's talking to you, she's looking past you to see if someone more important is coming." LOL.
That's exactly how it felt, Candy.

My boyfriend was a sound engineer and we got a gig touring w/ The Platters at Ramada Inns(This was back in 77?/78? hell, it could have been 76
I remember we started in Marietta, Ohio and then drove straight to Texas, then Kansas before I found out he was sleeping the lead female vocalist.
I have no red hot recollection on how i got home. none
One thing though- The main male singer couldn't say ASK- he said AX.
I tried for weeks to help him and he never nailed it correctly during smoke gets in your eyes.
It's starts out:
They asked me how I knew
My true love was true...

not, They axed me how....

I was 16 when I got to know/see The Raspberries (Go all the way) and James Gang weekly- all local boys done good.

Later, Eric Carman had a few good hits - mostly, All By Myself and thanks to Dirty Dancing, Hungry Eyes
He's a bit of a douche. I liked his bass player Wally Bryson much better.

James Gang did Funk #49 and Walk Away-- Joe Walsh was the long runner / he's with the Eagles now- and sober, thank God.
OH! MY boyfriend when I moved to NYC was good friends w/ Tito Puente~~~ brought him into Brooklyn for his Latin Club ,decades before. Tito was a happy happy sweet man.

I was thrilled when one of Barry Manilow's newer albums had this song in it:

BARRY MANILOW - THE NIGHT THAT TITO PLAYED - got serious horns and spanish classical guitar on it/ check it out.

I've seen
David Bowie
Jethro Tull
Joni Mitchell
Leonard Cohen 6 times (got to go backstage when I was 16)

I have more stories forgotten than remembered because I lived through them.

A friend came by - I was maybe 17/18- he had an extra ticket to Pink Flyod down at the Cleveland Stadium.
I didn't know them.
we dropped acid and spent the day on the field. it rained. it felt good. everyone was vibing together- it dried up, it became dusk and suddenly, two lear jets flew over us so very close and when you turned your head back- they started to play..it was the opening of the show. Spectacular!

Never heard of them before- became a big fan.. Money, it's a gas!! long day but good trip!
