Detached retinas are no fun

Last Nov. 3rd I fell outside a nearby fast food restaurant. The result were several injuries including a fractured shoulder AND a detached retina, my 2nd in as many years. This one in the right eye.
The eye required surgery which I had back on Dec. 14. It's seemed as if all the illnesses and injuries in my life before this, couldn't compare to the agony I've gone through since this accident.
Had just bought a new car but haven't driven it since. So it still sits in the garage with barely 300 miles on it.
Physical therapy helped heal the shoulder. It's probably 95% of what it was. But am still waiting for the gas bubble in the eye to disappear. Have been warned I can't fly due to the air pressure.
I never realized how much I saw with two eyes til I had to rely on mostly one. There's actually been little if any physical pain through all this. Just so much frustration. And don't get me started on the health insurance provider. Was on hold with them 3 HOURS one day last week and still no one answered!
Thought I might pursue a personal injury case against the restaurant but haven't. I would never wish this mishap on anyone.

Tim
I am so sorry to hear about this. I don't know you beyond your posts on this board, however I can only imagine what you are going through.
I hope that you do recover soon and reward yourself with a trip to Las Vegas.

Hang in there,

Paul
Oh, Tim, so very sorry about all this.

Did you slip and fall, trip on a curb or broken sidewalk at the fast food place?
Was there something structural that contributed to your fall?

See a personal injury lawyer for a consultation. Do you have a case?

Take copies of your medical records, medical bills you've had to pay out of your pocket, missed work that is costing you income, etc.

You have really been through it, still going through it. Prayers!
Hope you are doing better. Insurance companies these days are hard to deal with. Even when the Dr. orders a test they have to check to see if insurance will pay before they will schedule test. I take a med when needed for migraines and the drugstore won't fill script as prescribed due to insurance. Hope you don't have to spend much more time on the phone with them as you already have.

Just had the latest doctor visit. As would be my luck, just before I was called in, all the power in the hospital went out! At least I wasn't scheduled for surgery then. Found out it's healing but I need the cataract procedure now. If it's not one thing, it's something else.

Tim
sorry to hear of it. I hope it is all soon behind you.
That sounds terrible! My Dad had a torn retina twice, and it was not a trivial thing to go thru. Get better soon, Tim.
On another note - cataract surgery is a pretty quick and painless procedure now, and will make a big difference in your eyesight if you've had cataracts for some time.
Man that stinks you can't even get on a plane for a vacation. I have had a couple of friends with detached retinas it is frustrating.

Best of luck with the insurance. Hope you are back on your feet soon.
Don't be discouraged!! I too had a detached retina. I went to a specialist who performed the scleral buckle operation. Vision slowly came back, but still very blurry. My wife encouraged me to go for our yearly eye exam. My regular ophthalmologist said it was scar tissue blocking my vision. Burned off the scar with lasers in his office. That was 8 years ago. Now I check my eyes twice a year. 20/25 in both eyes and able to read with no glasses. I'll send up a little prayer! Good Luck...
