Does anyone have anything to say on the subject of Zimmerman /Trayvon Martin.

I sure have some feelings on this subject and not much of an outlet to discuss it with a group. I happen to enjoy different views. This might be too hot a topic for a forum like this and I am not one to get a lot of hate and anger going but just the same I would like to hear some different views.
This was a no win situation. The press was going to run with it. I personally do not agree with the shooting, but I do agree with the stand your ground. The press tried showing the "kid" as small and young (pictures they used were from 4-5 years ago). The young man was nearly 6 foot tall and looked well built. I do think he was scared being followed and Zimmerman should have never pursued the kid. When cornered most people do come out fighting.

My biggest fear is some yahoo is going to "plan" a target and use the Zimmerman defense. This case is going to set a precedent in trial law.

Yes, like you I hope no haters and anger takes place and ones here can express their views and maybe give someone food for thought they had not thought of.
I pass judgement on two things:
- the homicide itself
- the events that led up to the homicide.

I believe the jury made the correct decision on the homicide. Nobody saw who initiated the actual violence and the eyewitnesses who came in later saw Trayvon on top beating Zimmerman...and their were injuries consistent with that. The defendant received (as he should have) the benefit of the doubt.

Zimmerman was not on trial for the events that led up to the shooting. That will likely be the subject of a civil case that is sure to come soon. The Martin family has already received close to 1 million dollars from the HOA in a settlement. Zimmerman himself will be next.

As to my disposition towards Zimmerman. I would be a lot more sympathetic toward the hate is receiving if he was more sympathetic to the fact he took a life. Probably the thing that bothers me most is his complete lack of remorse for any of his behavior that night. A thoughtful and empathetic person might reflect on his actions from the initial profiling that was completely off the mark, to the hateful words on the 911 tape, to the decision to disobey the 911 operator. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he killed in self defense but until he can demonstrate some kind of empathy for the life he took away I tend to think he is worthy of most of the vitriol he's getting right now.
You don't hear much about the reports that Travon had marijuana in his system,he had sent texts that he liked to fight and he had been suspended from school.Sounds like he could have been a trouble maker.I'm also wondering if he tried to tell Zimmerman he was visiting his father and he did belong there.

Well - we can dream can't we?

Neighborhood watch...not a great idea.

Some well meaning folks started one up in our neighborhood many years ago (no packing of heat, though). There were meetings, signs to put up, "training" by a cop what to do if you saw something, 'shifts' to sign up for, all that. In reality nobody wanted to "watch"--sit up half the night looking for trouble, which we hadn't had much of anyway and still don't. It died a natural death due to lack of participation. Thankfully.

All I'm saying is....

Not sure if this will work but it's worth a try:
