Electric out again

Storms moved through last night and again lost electric. Going on about 18 hours with no power and its 90 degrees outside with humidity at over 60%--my sweat is sweating. Power co has no idea when we will be back on because according to their records our electric is on. I live on a dead end road with only 5 houses we are not a high priority for them to fix. It sure is a lot easier to keep things warm/cold in the winter with the power goes out opposed to in the summer. ERRRR. ok just needed to vent. At least in Vegas it is a dry heat. LOL Oh one more thing the storm took out my tomato plant that was over 6ft tall.
We have had that problem ever since we moved into new house 4 years ago. We had local company install 20 a KWH generator. Cost for entire package $6500.00. When the power goes out it automatically kicks on to natural gas. Every week it kicks on and runs about 12/15 minutes on natural gas to keep in check. A few years ago we were in Las Vegas when we lost power few times but it was never off for any long periods. When we lost power in the past two years once in Janaury for 1 1/2 days and once in Feburary 2010 for 4 days. That's when we said enough was enough. Really it does not make that much noise and it runs the entire house hands free. No worry dragging out the generator or about running out and buying gas all the time for a generator, losing a freezer full of meat, frozen pipes in winter, or sweating simple during a summer outage and having no A/C.
The BeRFerD residence is also without power since 9:30 PM Monday night. The house is unbearably hot. Our upstairs was triple digits and our first floor was 96 with all windows open. Last night and this morning was a little better with mid 80s in the living room where we spent the night.

Our neighbor ran an extension cord for us to run a fan and my CPAP machine. We are part of a small section in our neighborhood without juice. Across the street and down the block are all flipping their lights at us flaunting their electoral prowess.

Hurricane Ike caused our power out for 1 week. This storm was not as wide spread but repairs seem to be progressing slowly. Out of 75,000 originally without power only 8,000 remain unelectrified.

The storm that went through our area seems to be considered straight line winds. When our neighbor’s tree smacked into our driveway I looked out and saw things rotating. The portion of his tree in our driveway went East, the portion blocking the street fell South and the other portion blew West. Our warning sirens went off but the local TV weather guy came on to advise that there was no reason for the sirens. It was later stated that a local spotter saw a funnel and the city launched a warning. Straight Line my ass.

This storm produced one of the most magnificent lightning shows I have ever seen. At times it was blinding; A little frightening but awesome none the less.

Well I have electric finally. Bad news is that the power company showed up at 2:00 AM to work on it. Driving very slowly down our road shining a couple of big flood lights looking for the problem and then treking around in our woods behind our house for the next 4 hours fixing the problem--the dogs barking and throwing a fit the whole time. Good news I have eletric--bad news didn't get any sleep the first night it was cool enough to sleep since it had been out.

George--Did DP&L ever get your electric back on? They were showing parts of Dayton still out.

No power yet. DP&L did come down our street last night with a pickup truck full of ice giving away bags of ice to those without power. I thought “This can’t be a positive sign”, so I asked about possible time frame and was told the crews are in the area working very hard.

We went out a little later and saw about a dozen utility trucks with cherry picker rigging all parked at Tumbleweed’s. I know they have to eat but I just hope they were not working hard on the Margarita special.
