Favorite Cover Songs

"Somewhere Over the Rainbow covered by Israel Kamakawiwo'ole" Totally love my Iz.
a LVAer turned me on to him.

is it two cigarettes or 3 cigarettes in an ashtray by k.d. Lang? <-- that gal can sing. I was tempted to put Cryin by her too
consider it done.
Crying by k.d. Lang.

I also like Joni Mitchells version of Why do fools fall in love w/ the Dixieland Hummingbirds. She also recorded
""Chinese Cafe/Unchained Melody", which incorporated the chorus and parts of the melody of the famous Righteous Brothers hit, and "(You're So Square) Baby I Don't Care", a remake of the Elvis chestnut.

but this is by far my favorite by Rogers and Hart that she does:

I Wish I Were In Love Again.

The sleepless nights
The daily fights
The quick toboggan when you reach the heights
I miss the kisses and I miss the bites
I wish I were in love again

The broken dates
The endless waits
The lovely loving and the hateful hates
The conversations with the flying plates
I wish I were
in love again

No more pain
No no more strain
Now I'm sane
But I'd rather be punch drunk

The flying fur of cat and cur
The fine mismatching of a him and her
I've learned my lesson but
I wish I were in love again

The furtive sigh
The blackened eye
The words I love you 'til the day I die
The self-deception that believes that lie
I wish I were in love again

When love congeals
It soon reveals
The faint aroma of performing seals
The double-crossing of a pair of heels
I wish I were in love again

No more care
No more despair
Now I'm all there
But I'd rather be punch drunk

Believe me sir, I much prefer
The classic battle of a him and her
I don't like quiet and I wish I were
In love again
My Maria, Brooks and Dunn.
I forgot to add in "House Of The Rising Sun" by The Animals because I think that they did it better than Bob Dylan.

Also "Red Red Wine" by UB40.

Dylan recorded the song, but he wasn't the original. The song has been around since the 1930s at least. People like Woody Guthrie, Lead Belly, and Joan Baez all recorded the song before Dylan. Nina Simone does an interesting version of it:

Nina Simone - House of the Rising Sun
Powderfinger - The Beat Farmers

The late, great Country Dick Montana on drums.
Thanks Flip for that information! I had been told a while ago that Bob Dylan had written it, but I just did a check on Wikipedia and found a whole lot more information about the song and its much longer than I thought history!

Oh, and I just remembered another excellent cover song. That's "Baby, I'm Gonna Lose You" by Led Zeppelin.
