Finish the sentence: My grandmother..

My Grandmother, thought that I was such a bright kid when I was born, that my mother should call me Son !!
My Grandmother . . . .was a terrible cook! (really!) and when she'd give me some money--like a $10 dollar bill -- she'd say "here's a 10 spot" . But she was kind and VERY god-fearing and had l-o-n-g white hair she'd wear up. AND she also taught me and my sister how to play Canasta! She was a wiz at cards. . . .
My Grandmother .............

Never knew either, .......... (and also never knew both Granfathers).

My grandmother decided she was going to buy herself a new car.. She informed us of the following ... " I'm going to get myself a little two seater ... one for me and one for my purse .. I'm tired of driving those old people around" ... she was 94. Lol.

My grandmothers were as different as night and day.

My mom's mom was a farmers wife, had 14 kids and never really had much. One time when she was in her 80's we went to town and I asked her if she would like a piece of pie. She said she never had been in a restaurant before. Needless to say we stopped for coffee and pie. She wouldn't order anything else because she was so taken with having dessert. I will remember that day forever, how something so little meant so much to someone.

My dad's mom was the opposite. She had a fancy Chevrolet covertiable, black with red interior, a 1958-1959 I think. It was awesome, she had that car til the mid 60's. She had a modern life but loved taking us to the Farmer's Market and shopping. She made the best baked beans, I have her recipe in her handwriting laminated and it is my treasure. She brought me a stuffed aligator from Florida once with a cocoanut monkey. lol

Barb, I love your story.

It reminds me of my paternal grandparents who refused to go grocery shopping on Tuesdays because, as they said, "Tuesday is the day all the old people go to the store." They were well into their 80s when they said this.
My grandmother taught me how to knit and crochet; unfortunately she never taught me how to start or stop it the process; but i sure was good at the middle part! She'd let me come stay at her house and she'd bring me to Piggly Wiggly grocery shopping with her and i'd get a ride on the little horsie for a quarter. Then we'd go back to her house and she'd make mini hamburgers for us, then we'd watch her favorite show, "Lawrence Welk". Those girls sang so beautifully - (the Lennon Sisters!) - and gosh were their dresses beautiful!!! (LOL)

My dad's Mom was a Polish immigrant. I actually lived with my grandparents during the week till I was seven because my folks ran a little diner during the week. I wish I had paid more attention when she tried teaching me Polish, but being a child of the 60's the motto was "You're in America now, speak English".
I wish I had some of her recipes but everything was from memory; she never wrote anything down!

My mom's Mom was also from Poland. After she divorced my mom's dad she married a German immigrant who transplanted her to a farm in Whitewater, Wi. I spent about a month every summer there till I was about 12. She's the one who taught me poker!

I really wish I could go back in time and pay attention to the little things I missed or I thought weren't important! I do know that both Grandmas did get to see me married and get to see their great-grandchildren which I think is an awesome deal!
My Gramdma was from Germany-- she taught me german.
my parents were all about speaking English .
i do remember speaking german w/ Grandma but like anything...~~ you lose it if you don't use it.
lost it around age 7
We also were near the Amish and i knew/understood that when I was younger
