FIRE ALARM!

Rousted out of bed at 2:30 am at South Point. The message was that there was a possible fire emergency. SO disoriented! After several minutes Ken says "Let's go. Nobody remembers the MGM!" That kicked me into action! Down 7 flights of stairs in my robe and slippers. Turned out to be a false alarm BUT I don't regret evacuting. ALWAYS better to be safe than dead.

You made the right decision. However you would think that within a few minutes they would have detected it was a false alarm. Even the fact they did not announce it was a false alarm the best thing as you posted better to be safe than dead. We were in the LV Club a few years back and the fire alarm went off. The people just continued to play the games as if nothing happened. Well about few minutes passed and a guy ran into the place and yelled there was a fire truck were in the rear of the building fighting a small kitchen fire.
It's good to be safe. On the plus side, hotels (especially newer ones like SP) are much safer places for fires to happen compared to the old MGM Grand fire. The reason the MGM fire spread so quickly and was so devastating was because of a lack of fire sprinklers, which are now standard.

(Of note, there was an addition to the old MGM with conference rooms or something like that which was added on after the original construction. There were sprinklers there as they were then required for new construction, and the sprinklers kept the fire from spreading into that newer wing. If there had been sprinklers in the deli and the casino floor, the fire likely would not have been anywhere near as bad as it was.)
This is from my trip report from January:

Second strange thing: Fire at Bally’s.
I was in my room Sunday afternoon watching the New England / Jets game.
Fire alarm goes off. A voice tells me to evacuate the room / floor. Use the stairs. I descend 22 flights of stairs. A couple flights from the bottom firefighters are climbing upward, full gear, coils of hose strapped on their back. They’ve got a long way to go. An older couple refuses my help. When I get outside, Flamingo Street is blocked. There are 3 or 4 ladder trucks around the building plus other vehicles. More are flying in.

When one thinks of fire, this is THE hotel. I did not wait to evacuate. I grabbed my money, keys and phone and left my bag. Since it was a real fire, I’m glad I did. I suspect many people ignored the alarm. My life is worth taking those stairs down and giving up an hour in my room.

The casino stays open and isn’t affected. An hour later I can return to my room. 25th floor is closed off. When I get back to my room, looking out the window I can see small streams of water coming down. Rumor was someone fell asleep while smoking in bed. Firefighters must have hosed things down pretty well.

PS-- TB
since I wrote that glowing review fire letter to the CEO, Gen. Manager, Front desk Manager and Liz in Diamond check in-- never heard back from them.
False fire alarms seem to happen quite a bit at Bill's (the old Barbary Coast).

It has happened on two separate occasions when I stayed there.

Yeah, False.... Fire alarms seem to go off alot.

I played thru a couple of em at Caesars, past couple trips.

And I stopped into Bellagio too, only to hear their Fire alarm going off.
Asked a customer, How long has the alarm been sounding?
He said, about 10 mins. so far........

I turned back around & went back to the parking garage. It was LOUD,
and I took it as a SIGN. Adios Bell.

If they can't notify customers of yay or nay on alarms sooner than that?
Were outta there.
N'cat, you didn't need anything so you didn't get anything.
You didn't send those letters to get something.
If you did, then you don't deserve anything.
Honesty is good -- even when it doesn't pay off in trinkets (or upgraded rooms).

I hope to GOD you come back as a hot blonde next life or as least READ the blondes handbook of Life in this one...
