GM wants fed gas tax to increase $1.00 per gallon

Isn't it nice we bailed out GM and now they want our gas tax to increase by $1. Isn't it enough our govt is creating policies to try and favor GM. (Unfortunately, it's not working)

GM pushing for federal increase in gas tax by up to $1.00
If you paid for the true price of a gallon of gasoline - which includes all of the military escorts and annual payments to oil producing nations to prop up their governments - you would be paying a hell of a lot more than an extra dollar per gallon at the pump.

Taxpayers are paying a gas tax - but it just appears under the national defense and state department budgets.

We who drive all use the roads, bridges, highways etc. they need to be maintained, who else should pay for that up keep? The bonus would be fewer miles driven, more efficient cars etc. Nobody wants to pay for anything any more.

We always have the highest gas prices...........so I say WE can't takes No more!

I can see the kool-aid has really started effecting some people.
What else would you expect from the ceo of Government Motors. Probably had to have his comments cleared by the white house.

Why is it ok for the government to raise gas prices but not oil companies?
50 Bill/year to protect the transports
Real price of gasoline

50 Billion / year just to protect the oil tankers amounts to over $1 at the pump all by itself. Nevermind all the other variables which actually more than double that amount.

So, like I said, taxpayers are already paying (actually borrowing) over $1/gallon for gasoline. But no big deal. I'm sure we can reconcile it simply by LOWERING everyone's tax rate.

I'm sure raising gas taxes will help the economy grow

Isn't that the prescription out of this mess --- Growth? Yet every decision made either acts to slow growth through inflation and / or more taxes or regulation. No wonder we are headed for a double dip recession.

Welcome to Europe!

I'm hopin' for a change.

Taxes are the lowest they've ever been.

You're right about inflation. We're borrowing money to help keep gas prices low. Probably a good thing but a very large and legitimate line item on the budget some people like to ignore...usually the same people who grandstand about the perils of deficit spending.

Taxes are the lowest they've ever been. - but when you factor in state and local taxes which have been increasing to keep up with federal mandates and employee pension/medical costs they have been rising faster than inflation

We're borrowing money to help keep gas prices low. - please explain
