Airlines - All planes left on time. Trip from Atlanta to Hawaii just over 9 hours in the air. Wouldn't want to do that too often. Hawaiian Airlines trips to islands were great. Always right on time and more then friendly. Plus only being on planes no more than 1/2 hour felt great.
Hotels - First was Hilton Waikiki Beach. On 37th floor. What a fantastic view. Told them this trip was for our 41st wedding aniversary. They sent up a cheese & fruit tray. Then second day, sent up wine and chocolate covered strawberrys. They really took care of us, at no charge. Ate breakfast there all mornings. Wife fell in love with pancakes and waffles. Plus with coconut syrup, she was very satisfied.
Second hotel, Courtyard by Marriott Kauai at Coconut Beach. They didn't have our reservation. Oh-oh. Had to come back a couple of hours later so they could figure out what went wrong. They gave us room with one bed and one roll away. Said no thanks, need two regular beds. I use CPAC machine. Finally got what we ordered. Ate one meal there, not that great. A beach they had with lots of rocks, reefs, etc. Prefer some area to just swim and play around in.
Third hotel - Royal Lahaina Resort. This was the best overall. Buffet each morning. Beach was beautiful. Room on 7th floor with partial view of ocean.
Things we done. Oahu, we took trip around island on a tour. Stop at varoius places. Beautiful once we got out of Waikiki Beach area. High waves in the north area of island, stopped at one of the beach trucks to eat meal. Coconut shrimp was great. In Waikiki ate at Market place twice, wonderful meals and not too much of being bothered by people with there souvenirs.
Kauai - Had rental car, convertable. Drove up to Waimea Canyon, beautiful. Drove to north of island. Waves were HUGE!! Nice to look at, wouldn't stick my foot in the water. Had to drive careful with one car lane bridges. But it was a great drive. Also Poipu Beach was very nice. Did some swimming there.
Maui - This island was the best for us. Had rental car. Beaches were great. Did pineapple tour, learned alot and all the pineapple you could eat out in the fields. Did a luau but I wasn't impressed with the food. But all the drinks you wanted was included. And they were not cheap with the liquor in the drink. The best thing we did on the whole trip was whale watching. Went on tne Ultimate Whale Watch. Whales were just flapping the flippers and tails. But approx. 100-125 feet from us, a whale breached. It was a thing of beauty. We were on a large yellow raft, about 3 miles out from island. Looked like waves would just overtake us. But we just flowed with them.
Overall - We thought with the first two islands we were at, it was nice but no reason to go back. But Maui, we want to go back to. The whale watching just from the beach was fun, going through Front Street, having shaved ice, relaxing on the beach, watching dolphins, and why are Hawaiian girls just so naturally beautiful.
